Is radio a tough job ?
I always wondered how may hours a radio host like those on AAR spend in the studio each day , most are on air for three hours , some for four . I know they have to prepare a show ahead of time and many write a show blog and do research .

For some reason i picture Mike at home watching news shows or CSPAN and wrtting the blog on a laptop then heading off to the studio a hour before air time . I love his show , always listen and have called in twice . I also know it always looks greener from where I come from . It can't be an easy job to keep up on all the events and think about these daily . It has to be fun to be able to vent on the air . There must always be the wonder if you will have a job the next day or week , the way radio goes .

1. Depends on how dedicated you are to doing the show.
Mike and Kathy Malloy spend literally ALL DAY in show prep.

Al Franken spends MUCH less as his very large staff prepare the whole show for him, and he only needs to read the scripts.

I help run http://www.HeadOnRadioNetwork.com/ and I am going at it from noon til after midnight every weekday.

So, yes, for most people in the business, radio is a tough job!

3. I did news, sports and commentary
on the radio while in College and for a year afterwards. I didn't have callers but it was time sensitive. I worked 4AM till noon and had to do a local news cast every half hour from 0500 until 1100. I was a one man show and spent a lot of time on the phone lines to the police and fire departments and the Mayor and whomever the hell else I could get a recording of. And there was always the handy AP wire which I contributed a ton to and the local papers. It was a lot of fun and I loved the hours.

4. I've worked in radio my entire adult life
both on and off the air. Don't be fooled by the 3 or 4 hour airshifts. There's lots of show prep to do...especially for those who do talk shows. It's much less for music jocks..but still a couple of hours on top of your shift. Plus, many announcers also have to do production - or voice commercial or promo spots.

5. Where do you work?
We have a new liberal network starting out, and if you can help us get onto some terrestrial radio stations, we would be MOST grateful!

8. I'm in DC
Do you have an AAR affiliate near you? Some stations that mostly run satellite programming are open to putting live shows on the air (most often not in the greatest dayparts) in an effort to develop local talent. Once a new show gets established, it's easier to start talking syndication.

9. Well, we are aiming at a national audience.
Our schedule runs from 2PM ET through 10PMET, with a new show in development for the 10PM ET through 1AM ET slot.

We also have two shows on Saturday evening from 8PM ET through 1AM ET.

Give us a listen some time!

Our most polished show right now is "Head On with Bob Kincaid", but the rest are developing just fine.

We also have a women's issues show, tentatively titled "Hot girl-on-girl action" in development, and I am working up a pre-recorded old time radio show for the weekend.

6. Someone like O'Really has to pore through Rove's
notes for a couple hours beforehand, I'd guess. As far as checking facts, etc., I'd think being a RW host would be pretty low-effort.

Harder than it looks.

10. I wish I had taken training
I know not many make it in radio and up until the last 6 years political issues the progressives deal with were not all that common on radio , there were no democratic voices . Now it has become great talk radio shows which we needed long ago .

I admire anyone who can do this , it sure makes my job seem pointless since I am not doing anything with a real point other than jobs to make a living . I've been a musician for many years since the beatles hit the scene and had good times and my hopes . Well it may sound silly but you get my drift .

The odd thing is , it a way it is great fun to bash the bush and at the same time these horrors are not funny and I would prefer the BCF were tossed into the street tonight . Where will we be able to focus the rage then ?

For all of those who put so much effort into the truth I am truly grateful .
