Could the iraq war itself be a distraction?
From offshoring and other examples of endangering national security and the economy? (though as far as distractions go, iraq is as much a problem as it is a distracting issue...)

1. You have done well, grasshopper!
Imagine there's no country... it's been stolen by mega-corporations

One world, once a progressive dream, now a nightmare. One world, under corporate thumb...

3. Don't forget the looting.
Some people see the looting as a side perk to the power grab, I see it as the same coin. Without the power they can't loot.

All of it is a distraction from or means to looting. It's what Bushes do, what they've always done.

Then again, Cheney and Rumsfeld also have the motivation of trying to be proven right in their tired old idealogies as well. For them the looting might be secondary.

Whatever it takes to fill the hole in their souls.

5. I think yes...and no.
It's proven to be a distraction in the sense that progressives are diverting energy to the anti-war cause that would be directed toward the issues you mention. But if you consider the whole PNAC thing, it's pretty apparent that they've wanted to take over Iraq to establish a central base and secure the oil there for a long time. It's not working out as planned because the bungling chickenhawks had no concept of how to conduct a war on the ground and refused to listen to experts who warned them of exactly what is happening now. But hey, it's just Iraqis and poor American kids dying and the profits are rolling in for the defense companies so it's all good as far as they're concerned.

7. Of course they decided Bush needed to be war president in order
to ram through neocon reforms and set neocon precedents. Of course. One of many reasons to go to war in Iraq we didn't realize at the time.
