Selfish post: Force DirectTV into the 21st Century...
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 04:38 AM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx,

Thanks for writing. I'm sorry, if we don't carry all of the Premium channels in HD right now. However, we often add programming based on customer requests, and I have forwarded your request to DIRECTV management.

We often make changes to our service based on customer requests, and we conduct customer surveys on a regular basis to get feedback and new ideas.

Thanks again for writing and please stay tuned to DIRECTV.com for the latest news and information about our service.

Sincerely,

Rommel
DIRECTV Customer Service

Here's a link to contact them: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/customer/howToReachUs.jsp

Yeah, I know it's trite, but any messages to them would be appreciated. They ought to be carrying High Definition Channels at the prices they charge.

3. Uh, Tom, do you know who owns DIRECTV?
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 04:39 AM by Skidmore
Rupert Murdoch. We used to use that satellite service till he bought it. Then we switched to DISHTV because of his purchase of the system, and the fact that they had better equipment and carried FSTV. DIRECTV did not carry any left of center stations at all. I'm for bleeding Murdoch's coffers as much as possible. We block Fox channels as a matter of principle in this household.

PS. DISHTV has a HD package available already. It's a much better service.

4. Yeah, I know it, but the business practices of the competition
is what took me to Murdock's branch. I had VOOM, but they went belly up, Dish tried to fuck me and I let them go.

5. I had thought Soros was at least part owner of DISH?
Yes, that George Soros, which is why I switched a few years back... and, I think DISH has been better overall for me.

6. We used to have all sorts of problems with DIRECTV.
Equipment always breaking down and no assistance with it. DISHTV equipment has been good and the one time we had a problem with one of the units, they were very helpful with realigning the signal from their end. May be a regional thing. We really have no complaints and my husband can continue adoring Amy Goodman from afar. I swear he'd leave me in a heartbeat for Amy.

7. LOL! If he leaves you for Amy, you can come live with me...
We'll set up a hostel of sorts to deal with this national problem.

Life in this household hasn't been the same since he discovered Amy.

12. Same DirecTV unit since 2001...

... and I bought my DirecTV system, complete with instalation kit ($35 for all you need except the thingys for neatly, ala cable tv style, attaching the said cable to the exterior walls, oh yeah, and drill and drill bit) for a total of $134.

One question, do you plug your electronics into a surge protected plugin bar? I have since 1988, and I have a 30 year old Sylvania 27 inch console that works like new.

11. Wrong...

... LINK and Current are both on DirecTV. Sorry, but DishTV programming leaves alot to be desired, ie...... cheap price and less than half the channels of DirecTV.

BTW, I am an "old" C-Band satellite television person, bought my first one in 1988, the family behind DishTV while preferable to Murdoch (he doesnt own DirecTV, but is a shareholder in Hughes) have their own undesirable traits in being big GOP backers in Colorado.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. You say tomato, I say tomatoh, tomato, tomatoh, lets call the whole thing off.

10. DirecTV can kiss my ass
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 05:29 AM by FuzzyDicePHL
After being DirecTV customers for 6yrs we got a new TV and wanted to go HD. That change was not possible without a huge cash outlay up front ($500 for a HiDef DVR which we would not own :wtf:), and a 2yr contract. Screw them. We went to Comcast (also evil) but like it much, much better. Especially sweet since D* lost their partnership with TiVo and Comcast is already testing TiVo software on their Moto boxes (TiVo was why we stayed with D* so long in the first place).

We have hated Comcast for years (and use a nickname for them that would get this post deleted if I were to share it), but D* was being ridiculous so we crossed over. So far it was a very good choice.

Good luck with your campaign, tho. They're planning to increase their HD programming a lot over the next year or so anyhow, as more networks provide digital & HD feeds.

14. The premiums... They only offer one channel of HBO and showtime
both of those have at least two channels as well as every other premium channel.

15. Not sure that HBO/Showtime have two HD channels
If they do, its just a west coast and east coast feed (i.e., the same content, 3 hours apart). Cinemax offers some HD programming, but my understanding is that a lot of the content on its "HD" channel is actually not in true HD. There's a chicken and egg problem, with the distributors slow to add HD channels and the programmers slow to provide HD content.
