An Apology To Ken Lay's Wife. I Am Sorry. Seriously.
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 07:17 AM by DistressedAmerican
I am sorry that you married one of the biggest criminals in American history and bore him kids.

I am sorry that once you did, you never did the honest thing and walked away from the millions and millions in ill gotten gains.

I am sorry that you did not convince your husband to plead guilty right off and return all of the damn money he stole.

I am sorry that you did not walk out on his ass the second you knew what thieving scum you were married to.

I am sorry that you have not been prosecuted for possession of stolen goods.

So many regrets...

Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 07:36 AM by DistressedAmerican
As long as she it, she is deserving of our collective scorn.

His death changes nothing about that.

When she returns the stolen money of her own free will, I'll apologize for being "tacky".

Is she a good Christian woman? Or will Bush call her a person as good as Kenny too?

And, yeah, if she does do the right thing, you bet I'll be as loud and as supportive as humanly possible.

23. He was 60 or so right?
So I doubt that every thing that they attained in their lives was ill gotten. Can she at least keep what was not ill gotten? If she was part of his crime she should have been prosecuted from the jump, no? If not, than only the ill gotten gains should be taken from her.

42. You know, I used to think it was very strange when I saw people
in other countries demanding to see pictures of dead bad guys and then STILL believe the bad guys weren't dead! That's how it went with Saddam's sons. NOW I understand. I really do. Has he been cremated yet? If the casket is open, I want to know whose body that is that someone performed plastic surgery on to make it look like Lay. I don't think I'll ever believe he's dead.

37. The 'Unjustness' of Lay's Death
She certainly will be living off Kenny's ill-gotten gains ... and possibly insurance money too ... because legally, he didn't do anything wrong.

If he really is dead, then sympathy is the last thing these crooks deserve ... they destroyed the lives and savngs and retirements of thousands of people.

And, now, Ken Lay will be declared innocent of the crimes he was convicted of -- it is so unjust -- in a cosmic kind of way. If I were one of Lay's victims, I would be terribly frustrated and angry at his death.

Lay's Death Clears His Record
CFO.com
The death of former Enron chairman Kenneth Lay will clear his record of his conviction, and even his indictment, ending Department of Justice efforts to recover Lay's bonuses and other earnings.

The legal doctrine, known as the abatement doctrine, will also likely complicate efforts by the Securities and Exchange Commission to take disgorgement action against Lay's estate. Civil suits against Lay will be similarly hampered.

And never forget the havoc that Lay and his gang at Enron caused in California in 2001. The path of devastation caused by this criminal element supported by Bush and Cheney is ... well, it is stunning in its breadth and depth.

I said that she was deserving of the kind of scorn she has gotten.

I'll repost:

"As long as she it, she is deserving of our collective scorn.

His death changes nothing about that.

When she returns the stolen money of her own free will, I'll apologize for being "tacky"."

She has agency here. She had the ability to end such attacks by returning the stolen money she living it up on.

What does that have to do with ends and means? I'm not trying to be rude. I'm genuinely confused by the statement.

10. But the issue is not dead
She and their children have remaining assets that are protected from legal action, including civil suits. All of them will live the rest of their lives in luxury that can only be imagined by most of us. She is certainly not a "poor woman". She is filthy rich, living in opulence on the money that Kenny boy made at the expense of former Enron employees and shareholders.

Let me know when she has to take a job at Wallmart like the rest of us whould have to do. :nopity:

". . . But during his testimony, Lay ended up coming across as irritable and combative.

He also sounded arrogant, defending his extravagant lifestyle, including a $200,000 yacht for wife Linda’s birthday party, despite $100 million in personal debt and saying “it was difficult to turn off that lifestyle like a spigot.”'

"My favorite Ken Lay story is that he bought his wife a $200,000 boat while they were already $100 million in debt. His explanation was “It’s hard to just turn that kind of lifestyle off.” That was the moment I believed his defense – that he was so frickin’ stupid he didn’t know he was a thief."

About the prospect of losing SOME of her homes. If they were vacationing in Aspen apparently she still has at least two.

16. Let me put something in perspective for you.
There was this show about an old time mobster, can't remember which one, but the point is the guy was as powerful as Al Capone, and they were doing a documentary on his life. The guy was long gone so they had to take testimonials from the people who knew him. Among that list was his last mistress/girlfriend/common-law-wife. She was an old broad by the time the documentary took place. Maybe in her sixties and it was hard to say if she was a looker in her time, but apparently so. Anyway, that woman talked about the guy like he was Adonis returned from the heavens. She was seduced by the power, his arrogance and knew all about his criminal exploits. She seemed to get off on it. Even in her sixties, she talked like there was nothing wrong that she was attracted to a living plague on this planet.

Sympathy? Compassion? I have as much for her as they did for the people they exploited. You know the number we'll never know? We'll never know the number of divorces or suicides that occurred because of the human misery they caused other people.

The whole story is an example of widespread, if not universal, corruption and greed of CEOs and other senior management of public corporations in the US. The Boards of Directors are complicit in schemes to enrich themselves and senior management at the expense of shareholders and employees.

"Say my art sucked? What?"

Nope.

"'I believe President Bush got 59 MILLION recommendations.' - What does this mean?"

It means that recommendations don't make the OP a good post any more than 59 million votes (if that - I'm from Ohio, so lord only knows how many it really was, but still, that's roughly the official number, and it's the only number we have) makes GWB a good leader. You see, you were saying that it's OK to be a ghoulish asshole as long as you make the greatest page (I *think* that's what you were saying, anyway). I beg to differ.

"What is your problem with DA?"
"What did he do to deserve such angry responses from you?"

"You see, you were saying that it's OK to be a ghoulish asshole as long as you make the greatest page (I *think* that's what you were saying, anyway)." - I never said, "it's OK to be a ghoulish asshole as long as you make the greatest page." You were the one who called DA a "ghoulish asshole." I was just repeating it to him in jest. Go ahead and ask him now, here in this thread, if he thinks I was joking or not.

Well, I'm glad you corrected a typo and didn't call me names. All I did was recommend his thread because I think it is prescient.

"Right now my problem should be clear to anyone who reads my above posts." - No, it is not clear why you reacted so venomously against DA, for whatever reason.

"I doubt that. As I said above, it's been a LOOOOOONG time since I've engaged him in discussion." - You can doubt me all you want, but let me inform you that although I am only a tiny rodent, I have the memory of a large elephant. :)

50. Thank you, Mr. President
I deeply appreciate your taking the time from the War on Terror to send me such a beautiful letter. I was very touched by it. As you know, Ken was so proud of you when you were elected Governor, and he felt very privileged to be THE No. 1 pioneer in your presidential campaign. Ken always valued your help, especially in nominating Pat Wood to the FERC and in numerous other matters. Here in Aspen, things are going as well as can be expected. The cost of living here makes it hard to keep good staff, but we'll manage... Blah Blah... Again, thank you for the tip on Rush. You know, Ken always said I was a good Lay.

Affectionately,
Linda

51. Bravo, DA
Let her "cry" in her diamond crusted widow's weeds. She owes not only the people of California and Texas, but people all over the world (like that community in India who had a totally inappropriate energy plant foisted upon them) their damn money back.

I can only hope they didn't breed. :scared:

52. A Little Personal Shout Out To My Buddy GB At LU (He Knows Who He IS).
You have my permission to link this in your thread about how hateful I am.

At least, I actually said something in this one.

(note for NO: Proper use of commas.)

55. I'm throwing my lot in with the rest of you ghoulish assholes
When she even makes an attempt at compensating the people that her thieving husband stole from, even a token offer, I may find some small sympathy for her.
Until then, she and the rest of the thieving bastards that support the thieving bastards that stole our country have nothing but my scorn and hatred I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

59. This really is distasteful.
And yes, I read your comment on that point. I disagree. I think this stomping on a some widow, no matter who her husband was, is shameful.

60. Fuck the widow and her faux weeds bought with money stolen
from my public utilities. Our state had to sue Enron so we didn't have to repay the exorbitant fees Enron charged us for our own water generated electricity they stole from us. I had to pay a 50% surcharge so my local public utility could remain solvent. I'm still paying it.

I wouldn't shed a tear if that bitch sat in the dark boohooing in her mansion until doosmday. Let her move into a homeless shelter. Even then, sympathy for the homeless residents would take priority over the whore whose feathered nest full of shit is brimming over.

Bring her to justice. Put her face on a "most wanted" card. Show me the corpse. Just like Uday and Qusay, because her husband was no different. As Woody Guthrie once said, "Some will rob you with a sixgun, others with a pen." Fuck the Lays.

excerpt from tapes made by former Enron employees at the height of the brownouts in California:

"They're fucking taking all the money back from you guys? All the money you guys stole from those poor grandmothers in California?"

"Yeah, grandma Millie, man."

"Yeah, now she wants her fucking money back for all the power you've charged right up, jammed right up her ass for fucking $250 a megawatt hour."
