1. am I the only one who feels that this whole thing is just smarmy?
wtf? Now that he's dead, he's back to friend status, and his wife... jeez. I'm sure that even though she's had a "rough spot" over all of this, what about all of the people who's entire lives were screwed so that she can have a freaking yacht I have NO sympathy for her whatsoever.

Yes, she's a widow, but she is dining in luxury on the blood of many, many people. I don't generally wish ill of anyone, but if she were on fire I would not piss on her to put it out. In my opinion she most likely knew full well what her husband was doing, and was equally benefiting from it (more so now that she will not only not have to pay anything back, but will also likely get life insurance money out of this).

2. it was snow's fault
Giving Bush the rare benefit of the doubt, of course, but Snow was a moron for correcting the reporter, which set off the initial debate.

3. I had thought the initial debate was older than that
that Bush has denied knowing Kenny Boy for the last few years.

4. history
Starting in 2002, the Bush cabinet distanced itself from Lay. And of course the Justice Department began its investigation.

But the most recent turn in this came last week, when Tony Snow corrected a reporter and said Lay was an "acquaintance" of the president, not a "friend." That spurred a lot of chatter.

6. a note
Bush's interview with King was just a few hours after Snow's comments to the press corps.

No one seemed to notice, though.
