Dierbold stole the 2002 GA election. Cleland would have won (even with the awful, totally beyond the pale ads) if Diebold hadn't installed software patches to steal the vote. Gov. Roy Barnes lost as well if you remember correctly.

There are many Democrats here who detest Chambliss and the GOP.

You need to research the 2002 GA polls right before the election and then check the spreads. The wins were not statistically possible.

I live in a blue city which is far from cruel and ignorant. My city has a Jewish woman mayor, a diverse city council (gender and race) and a Demcoratic Congressman.

I did not "attack" you. I simply stated my case that it is not right or fair to characterize all Georgians based on an election result which is disputed.

I have no idea where you live or even if you are in the USA or if you have ever been to Georgia (and not just to Atlanta). I have lived in the South all of my life and I have traveled abroad and across the USA. I would never speak about people from other regions the way that others speak about Southerners. Sure, there are some mean, bigoted or racist people here in Georgia but there are those sorts of people everywhere. However, there are many good and democratic and open-minded people here too, as there are in other states and regions.

I don't agree that Americans are "a far more sinister lot than they are given credit for." Rather, I believe that a good number of the rich and powerful are greedy, power hungry and sinister. Many of the rest of the GOP voting citizenry are clueless, under-educated, apathetic and easily manipulated by the corporate media, politicians and religious leaders. I think that lack of education and a broad world view fostered by exposure to people from other races, cultures, travel abroad and international media is mostly to blame for bigotry and racism. So no, I don't think that many people knew they were "voting for a liar." Unfortunately, many people believe anything they hear from the GOP or their religious leaders or from misleading political ads on TV and radio. Even the well-educated are not well or widely read on the important issues of the day. The corporate media is partly to blame for this problem. The news is nothing more than corporate and political propaganda.

I know a well-educated women who thinks that Perdue is so wonderful because he and his wife foster children. The woman has no clue that he cut the education budget by 1.5 billion dollars here in Georgia. This woman is not sinister. She is not curious enough to read beyond the headlines and ads and learn about what Perdue's real agenda is. (I do think that many of the politicians, especially the GOP elected officials, are greedy bastards. They worship at the Church of Money.)

I am working to get out the vote here in Georgia and I support my local candidates and meet with my representatives at the state and local level whenever possible. I make a point to be politically and socially involved. I actively support and fight for democracy and my liberal and democratic ideals in my everyday life.
