Dan Rather to make a comeback!!!
http://www.rawstory.com/showarticle.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2006%2F07%2F09%2FAR2006070900779_pf.html

<SNIP> Dan Rather is about to announce his comeback.

Three weeks after being let go by CBS, the former anchor has agreed to launch a program called "Dan Rather Presents" on HDNet, the high-definition channel owned by billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban.

"We are excited about it," Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, said yesterday. He described the show as "an opportunity to do news in what I like to call 'fearless mode,' what Dan calls 'with guts.' Go out there and find the stories we think will have impact."

<SNIP> HDNet, available on the DirecTV and Dish satellite networks, reaches about 3 million homes, a small fraction of the audience for the broadcast networks. But Cuban said that as a premium network featuring news, sports and entertainment, it should be compared instead to such pay channels as HBO and Showtime. "Like HBO, we don't program for ratings, we program for happy subscribers," he said. "We think 'Dan Rather Reports' fulfills that goal and then some."

Now HDNet just needs to land Bill Moyers and Phil Donahue, and they turn Cable TV Infotainment on its ear! I can't wait until October!

2. he can still have impact by *breaking* stories there...
forcing the rest of the "whore corps" to respond to actual news, etc...

4. You don't have to have HDTV to get HDNet...

both the DIRECTV and DISH HD receivers (and 99% of the cable HD receivers) will output to a standard TV (I do it all the time) you just get the picture letterboxed.

(and you probably WILL have it in one form or another, HDTV is a superset of DIGITAL TV.. and as of 9 days ago, all sets 25" and larger that are sol MUST have a digital tuner (the magic letter to look for is ATSC Tuner). If you have a nonHD ATSC set, it will DOWNREZ the picture so you can see it.)

3. This is good news, he'll maybe be able to actually inform us
as to what the real agenda is. the one we already know but the masses don't. it can and will force the other 'news' to start covering some of the things they cover up for now.

5. Dan, please go out with some grace.
Retire and enjoy life. You had a great career, take some time to reflect on it.

See the grandkids, do some speaking engagements at your discretion. Charge $100,000 grand

Doing this will make you look like you are trying to hang on.

6. Great News. Now he just needs to use Olbermann & Dobbs as reporters
and cover the voting machines. He'd never run out of super-interesting material. This voting machine soap opera boondoggle is the biggest story in at least 25 years, one of the biggest in American history.

7. Rather is on Dish Network, Stern is on Siius, it's like anyone with...
... any stones is having to move out of FCC influence. It'll be interesting if this turns into a trend, although the dirt poor working class who can't afford pay media will be left out of the loop even more.

Rather to be able to get back in the game and do it his way.

No corporatemedia telling him what he can and cannot say. It will be like a dream come true, me thinks.
