WI Gov '06: Doyle opens lead plus poll numbers for Kohl & Feingold
A new Badger Poll has good news for Governor Doyle. He is currently leading his GOP opponent Rep. Mark Green by 49-36 percent. But the good news is tempered by a 38% job approval rating and the director of the Badger Poll thinks the Governors race could still tighten considerably.

Senator Herb Kohl has a 2-1 lead over each of his potential GOP opponents--Redick or Lorge.

Kohl gets a 53% positive job rating from Wisconsinites while his counterpart Sen. Feingold achieves a 47% positive job rating.

Nearly 70% of Wisconsinites have a favorable opinion of Senator Kohl and 59% have a favorable opinion of Senator Feingold.

2. Kohl has broader support

he scores well with Dems, Indies and while he doesn't score well with Republicans he does better among them than Feingold. But Democrats are more likely to rank Feingold as an "excellent" senator while Kohl is ranked more as a "good" senator. So Feingold has more enthusiasm among democrats while Kohl does better than Feingold across the board. Also, Kohl has won his elections by bigger margins than Feingold has.

3. I know DUers don't want to believe it but
Feinstein's numbers are regularly the same or better than Boxer's too.

SurveyUSA 6-20 poll has Kohl 58%, Feingold 50%and
Feinstein 56%, Boxer 51%

4. the reason is that while Boxer and Feingold may be more
popular among democrats (though both Kohl and Feinstein do well among democrats too) they have broader support than Feingold and Boxer among Indepedents and Republicans--which lift their overall numbers.

radar in a very purple state.

Hence, Feingold isn't so beloved on the red side of that purple.

Don't forget also that both our Gov and Kohl are DLC. Purple people for a purple state.

Do you live in WI?

8. Schwarzenegger has a 7 point lead
And he's "surging towards November." Doyle has a 13 point lead and "it could still be tight."

Welcome to the Republican-controlled spin machine.
