Conservative NATIONAL REVIEW endorses Vichy Joe Lieberman
They do say that the GOP should root for Ned Lamont in the primary, solely for the spoiler effect if Lieberman mounts an independent challenge, but that Lieberman is their man if they have to choose between him and Lamont.

Their description of Lieberman and especially Lamont makes me want to send a few more bucks Lamont's way.

But what about the reasons for conservatives to root for Joe Lieberman? For starters, he is a visionary on foreign policy who shares President Bush’s commitment to winning in Iraq. He was one of the first senators to sign on to the invasion to topple Saddam Hussein, and according to the Almanac of American Politics he warned the administration in 2002 of a “theological iron curtain” of regimes in the Middle East whose political and economic oppression was not only immoral but also dangerous, as such countries seem to breed anti-U.S. terrorists. As other commentators have noted, he’s the last of a dying species: the liberal internationalist hawk.

This internationalist streak also shows up in his support for expanding international trade. In a debate between the two candidates last week, Lieberman reiterated his support for increasing America’s export opportunities overseas. He has managed to advocate an aggressive free-trade agenda and still win the endorsement of the AFL-CIO — no small feat.

Lamont, on the other hand, sounded like an isolationist liberal on both economic and foreign policy. He argued that our “best hope for success” in Iraq is to withdraw our troops as soon as possible — regardless of the consequences — and said his inspiration on Iraq is Rep. John Murtha. On trade, he said that we need to require tougher labor and environmental standards for other countries before we trade with them — an insulting proposition for less-developed countries in dire need of foreign investment.

2. Since all the conservative reichwing nuts are jumping aboard the
Lieberman express do they even have a repug candidate running against the Dem candidate this fall? Somehow I find it hard to believe that all the repug wackos that are shilling for Joe will still be on board come November. Nary a word has been said about the repug candidate being so much better than Leiberman or Lamont - ya think they are going to pull a flippy floppy?

Was just wondering who is the person the repug are going to throw up against the Dems?

10. Ignore NR propoganda...

They're enjoying the infighting, and they're just hoping to stir the pot a little. Remember that in 2000 or 2004, NR wouldn't have touched him with a ten-foot pole, and now they're endorsing him.

If you can't see through that bunk, then get your eyes checked. You don't have to support him, but don't let NR fool ya. They're not supporting Lieberman because he's conservative.

11. hmm...they said they prefer Lamont wins because he'd be easier to beat...
but they said Lieberman supports Bush on his core foreign policy, which is true.

If I lived in Connecticut, I'd vote for Joe if he won the primary. If he lost the primary, I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

He is following the DLC tactic of doing just enough to woo progressive voters, but on the big issues, he steps on our throats to serve his corporate masters.

I can't believe that anyone would defend a mercenary piece of shit like him.
