Anyone Watching Hannity and Colmes?
They covered the coffin "controversy". Hannity had some RWer - Michael Reagan, I think it was - on there to talk about how "disgusting" it was for "our party to be politicizing the war".

Hannity went into one of his spiels that went something like, "You lib'ruls and Democrats need to understand that you've been caught politicizing the war, undermining the President of the United States, blah blah...which is why you will lose in 2006".

I don't remember the name of the "Democratic Strategist" who was on there, but she an Alan Colmes did a pretty good job standing up for what's right. I'd give them a B for effort.

I noticed something about Hannity's "debate" tactics tonight: he will deliberately throw other issues into the mix to force his opposition to start talking about other issues. He absolutely did it tonight. He got off on this tangent about how Democrats have "flip-flopped" on the war and how "insane" it is to create a timetable for leaving Iraq. Is there a proper name for that tactic? Misdirection?

Therefore, the political opposition will focus on other issues on which they may not be as strong and forget about the issue at hand. If Hannity engaged in a real debate with a liberal who wasn't afraid to stand up for their beliefs, where he wasn't allowed to talk above and over people and misdirect them onto other red herring issues, he'd lose big. He's a blue-collar redneck hack, and pardon my conceit, folks, but I really believe that I could smoke him in a proper debate. So could any of you.

Incidentally, this was another reminder of why I'm a Democrat. I am SO glad that I am a Democrat and not a member of the morally bankrupt, lying, elitist, freedom-hating Republican party. You guys are great; I'd much rather be associated with you than holier-than-thou hacks like Hannity.
Ringo

3. Sort of the "Why do you hate America" tactic
suddenly you're not talking about the issue, but about how you're really don't hate America. If they can accuse you of being some unreasoning hater and then have you responding to that, in some ways they've won the debate. The idea seems to be that they are the last one's standing, usually because the Dem has run screaming into the streets from trying to deal with the inanity of their arguements.

15. Exactly
Every Democratic/liberal guest that Shammity has on his show falls for it hook line and sinker. The woman tonight was sucked right into it.

It's kind of like the board game Risk. I've never personally played it, but I hear that it's impossible to win when you're having to defend multiple areas at once. It's better to contain your troops in one central, well-defended area than defend multiple areas at once. In the same way, it's much better to debate a topic like this one than debate this topic AND the war AND when we should get out of Iraq AND how patriotic we are, etc.

8. I have decided it's about staying on point
Arguments are won on a point-by-point basis. Even when the other side stays on the same ISSUE, if they are losing a point in the argument, rather than concede defeat, they will switch to the next point. This way, at the end of the debate, they have conceded nothing. Is that what it's called - misdirection?

20. Effectively used by famous RW radio host Bob Grant in NYC....
Hannity idolized and learned the technique by listening to Grant's rants in the 70's....

I've also read where free country music CDs are being to sent to soldiers in Iraq. Are soldiers interested in any other sort of music?

17. I agree- even the most casual of DUers could out-debate any pundit...
GOP or DEM, for that matter.

The pundits dont impress me- the Repubs are liars and the DEMs they have on wont call them on it.
