http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=f0c050ad1d9455eaDespite the Middle East facing its biggest crisis in years, U.S. President George W. Bush has had no contact with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
In fact the president has had no communication with any Israeli leaders, and White House Press Secretary, Tony Snow, says he has no plans to consult with any Israeli officials.
Asked at a press conference in Germany about the bombing of the Beirut International Airport, Mr. Bush avoided answering the question but said he was concerned about any actions that would weaken the government of Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, who came to power in July last year following the exit of Syria from the country.
Bush has telephoned King Abdullah of Jordan, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, and Siniora, but has avoided any contact with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
The president has strenuously defended Israel's military actions in Lebanon, which followed the death of eight Israeli soldiers, and the capture of two others. At a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday he repeatedly said Israel had a right to defend itself.
White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, traveling with the president, said, 'Today on the plane, the President made some phone calls to foreign leaders regarding the situation in the Middle East. He talked to King Abdullah of Jordan, they talked for, I don't know, 12 minutes or so. He also talked to Hosni Mubarak, and the third (call) was to Prime Minister Siniora of Lebanon. The topics were all the same. He thanked especially King Abdullah and President Mubarak for their help in trying to resolve the situation in the region.'
