Mom, here's what you don't get
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 12:20 AM by CornField
A quote from my 14-year-old daughter tonight:

"Mom, here's what you don't get. You're all upset and everything about all this war and fighting, but my friends and I aren't like you. We cannot remember a time when there wasn't war. We've never known peace and we're pretty sure we never will."

I use to think I was young because I've never experienced war which wasn't covered live by CNN.

1. Wow....children can be humbling can't they...
And your childs' comment that they have never known a world where there isn't peace.....is truely a sad insight isn't it?

The US leader doesn't want peace he want's to be the leader that leads the world to Armageddon....that is what he want's his legacy to be....

3. Pretty fuckin' sad, isn't it?
I just really don't see how war is good for children, and it makes me sad to think of the kids - like yours - who are growing up under this current administration, who are being totally fucked by it, and who will either grow up thinking that this is the proper way to think and behave, or grow up knowing that a whole bunch of adults who should be taking care of them and loving them and protecting them, actually don't give a goddamn about them at all, straddling them with debt and dead dads and moms and dead brothers and sisters and a fucked environment and a failed economy and a country ruled by corporations and hate in the name of Jesus Christ.

Perhaps the only really good solution is to just purge everyone over 18, and let humanity start over without all the adult bullshit.

4. Jesus, spoken like DEPRESSION+WW2 kids
That's sad. To grow up with that grey cloud over your shoulder....and to never see the glass full.

5. Define war.
Does this mean war in general, or just wars that the US has been involved in? Because if it means the former,I would say that humanity is never at total peace with itself. The only difference is that now we have the means and the time (24-hour news cycle) to hear about every bad thing that happens.

6. Mankind has always been at war...
This realization doesn't change anything.

7. When was there peace?
Like what is happening now is "new"?

But then again, kids always think everything is new...

8. It always makes me a bit sad
that my younger sister has spent the entire time she's been politically aware living under Bush*. At least I can remember Clinton and various controversies (besides that whole ridiculous Monica thing) and discussing politics with friends at a time when we didn't have the Shrub as our "fearless leader."

9. Our kids
must think a lot alike, tonight my daughter told me she would never get to vote for a President because King George was never leaving office.. She's 12 years old.
