New KC Star Isn't Even Covering the MiddleEast Stuff
I am appalled.

This new owner - McClatchy - doesn't put any real news on the front page - just a lot of pretty pictures. One day they covered the comeback of Jimmy Bakker and had a huge picture of him.

Yesterday morning I picked up the paper to see what was going on in Israel and there was nothing on the front page. Just an article in World News on page 15.

This morning it was the same thing. Page 15. They did also run an article on Iran.

Time to bale out and just start reading the NYT.

2. You have to leave this country and go online if you want to know what's
going on. Here's a starter.

3. No US news agency can be trusted to tell us the truth
It is sad, that the US media, once considered the model of "Free Press" has been reduced to the equivalent of the Russian news organization Pravda.

6. long past time to bail
When the 'shock and awe' attack of Iraq began, over 3000 marched
from Millcreek Park and around the Plaza. Not worthy of photo ink
from the KC Star (and only a brief mention).

At the 2004 MLK event Millcreek protest, (easily) over 500 people attended.
The KC Star reported it as "about 100". Granted there are a few excellent
writers at the KC Star but why support their corporate owners?

The NYT is also in the pocket of the corporations as witness to the
build up propanda selling of the Iraq War. The NYT has also not fairly
covered the 9-11 GZ toxic contamination issue which continues to cause
immense suffering to caring 9-11 first responders and residents
(expected to kill more than the attack).

The Iraq War propaganda should serve as evidence to thinking citizens
to believe little of their one sided news and (illegal) "justifications".

For authentic world news, check Global Research.

7. My husband and I stopped our delivery of the KC Star
on July 1st. Their new (and improved) NOT is horrid, and I told them that when I called them.

9. I just e-mailed the editor and said I was gone.
I'm not spending money for a paper that has no news. That is what I read the paper for. And the new editorial page just sucks.

8. McClathly just bought the Miami Herald
Today's top-of-the-fold front page article is headlined "Israel attacks intensify as crisis deepens".

The truth is, McClathly is not calling the shots yet as far as what goes on the front page. They're not known for that. They're leaving it up to the individual editorial staffs whereas before, Knight Ridder exerted stronger influence over its editorial content.

I would blame the local yokels running the paper, not the new owners who are based in California.

10. I don't think it does any good to blame anyone. They don't care.
I can get the local news on TV, I don't need the Star for that.

I think the pitbull problem here is a worthy news topic - but not front page when there is an escalating crisis in the MiddleEast. That should be out there front and center. Put the Pitbull story on the 2nd page.

11. Well you're the one who blamed McClatchy
I'm just saying they have a very hand-offs approach to journalism. That's their style. To keep their newspapers more localized instead of the cookie-cutter styles used by Gannett and to a certain extent, Knight Ridder.

As long the paper makes money, they're happy to allow the local staffs to run the paper as they see fit.

It is a newsworthy topic, but somehow, they're missing it. I'm sure you're not alone in thinking this way. Why not just write an LTTE stating what you said here?

12. I quit reading it many years ago, before Art Brisbane took it over.
Back in the 1960's and early '70's it was one of the top newspapers in the country, well worth reading, and was a Pulitzer Prize worthy entity. Now, I wouldn't even use it to line a birdcage with.

13. You should see today's paper. You wouldn't even know
there was a war going on in the Middle East. It is absolutely bizaare.

The World News is just absolutely pathetic.

And what is one the front page? An article about being able to take bic lighters on planes.

There has been no coverage of the war going on in Israel at all. Meanwhile the NYT has devoted pages and pages to it.
