5. Israel would listen to the U.S.
They are, in effect, a client state of the US. Essentially, our leaders give them the weapons they use to kill innocent civilians. If our leaders really wanted Israel to stop the slaughter, they would. Of course, there is little doubt our leaders are saying one thing in public, but behind closed doors giving Israel their blessing to continue the attacks AND to escalate the violence. The Bush cabal would love nothing more than to see Iran get "involved" in the conflict, thus giving them a "reason" to go to war with Iran.

22. Israel would not listen the United States
because the United States has never demonstrated that Israel must listen to it and take our views and feelings seriously.

Heard Israel apologize for killing 34 sailors on the USS Liberty yet (and for trying to kill them all) ? No you haven't and you probably never will.

2. I may know one of the 25,000....
:(

The daughter of friends is supposed to attend the American University of Beirut at some time. She is an aspiring Middle East expert and spends much of the summer in either Syria or Lebanon each year. I have a call into the parents (no one home) to find out where she is.

some Europeans. France and Britain have sent warships to get their citizens.

7. I have a friend whose family is still in Syria
and another with family on the West Bank. Both are Christian, not that it matters.

You're right, Israel doesn't care. They're all towel heads and they're all inferior and they must all be eliminated from that land of milk and honey the way they were in the most vicious parts of the old testament.

The religius nutcases have always held a tremendous amount of power in Israel because they've been necessary to both Likud and Labour when it came time to form a coalition government.

Israel is an example of why there is an absolute need for separation of church and state!

4. And with NO clear plan by the US to get them out!
25,000 is a whole lotta people to evacuate!

They need to collect about 20 cruise ships, empty them of the vacationing yahoos and position them off the coast of Lebanon (although this could put them in range of Hezbollah anti-ship missiles - perhaps the US could garner a guarantee from Hezbollah to NOT fire on the civilian ships? Impossible? I really don't know...).

I really don't know how else they could do it. :(

6. Does this administration have a plan for anything???
Simple answer is no.

Everything they do is "kneejerk" reaction... Makes me sick.

8. Dead Americans will be a great excuse for the PNAC crowd
to get the US involved, probably in destroying Syria.

They're pawns and will gleefully be sacrificed by a giggling president.

On edit: Keep in mind that, during the 1967 War, Israel tried to sink the USS Liberty.

an evacuation is needed, a Amphibious Ready Group could do it in a few days... and it just so happens we have at least one in the area all the time.

9. the IDF is striking
Hezbollah targets to the best of its ability. They are not planting bombs in hotels and apartment complexes housing foreign citizens. They are not placing bombs on buses and they are not flying commercial jetliners into buildings. That would be 'terrorizing' those people.

The fact of the matter is that the Israelis have sent word thru the Italians that there is going to be a manner in which a cease-fire may be obtained. They clearly do not want this to widen to Syria and Iran. This is the Middle East, not Fantasy Football.

I am afraid that DUers are using language in much the ssame way Bushco does...'subliminables'(sic) should be kept to a minimum.

11. Sorry, but what they are doing puts them in the category of
dangerous rogue state... When was the last time Iran lobbed missiles at anyone?

Israeli leaders are playing politics with people's lives and that screws over everyone (on both sides).

If they really wanted their soldiers back, they would have negotiated before taking action. As it stands, they took no incremental actions or steps...

18. Just a little hint: Israel is sloppy...
They have been hitting population centers and have been attacking taxis at random on the highways. If they hadn't fucked up, then most Lebanese would have supported this. Hezbollah is equivalent to Pat Robertson with an army; so you can see why people don't like them. Problem is that Israel in not simply going after Hezbollah like they say they are. At this time, Israel has killed more civilians in Lebanon, than Hezbollah has in Israel. Israel is supposed to be a civilized nation, yet they are so reckless that they are creating an image in the Lebanese people's eyes that is substantially worse than Hezbollah. (That is really hard to do, considering Hezbollah has continuously fucked with Lebanon for years.)

They're his citizens but Israel is more than a friend, and if Israel wants to terrorize them, they don't need permission.
