Warner on the Senate floor making sense about Lebanon.
What happened to the Democrats? It is a Republican who is making a balanced statement about the situation and the risk and reminding the "honest broker" policy.

(though he is talking about not wanting Bush and Rice losing credibility, but the rest was an excellent statement that I would have liked the Democratic leadership to make).

1. Clinton has made the most
rational comment. Even Tweety quoted him to end his program and KO is talking about Clinton's comment now.

He said anything that will stop the loss of innocent lives is good and the US will have to stop being disengaged.

6. He was speaking about a resolution that would have defended
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 07:22 PM by Mass
the right of Israel to defend itself, saying that the resolution was too one-sided, that things should be added to speak about lebanese, people in Gaza, and Israeli that were suffering from the bombings, about the US people stuck there, about how a resolution supporting the attack on Lebanon would impact Iraq and Afghanistans and other moderate Arab regimes, and stating that the US should not state an inconditionnal support for Israel but "stay" an honest broker.
(quick summary).

Of course, this was said by a Republican and there were a lot of little touches that reflected that, but, after having heard the Democrats on TV this week-end supporting inconditionnally Israel, this was definitively better.

It is good to see at least one Senator offer a dissenting view from the Bush/Olmert administration's positions. The rest are just echoing Bush/Olmert. I generally agree with what he said.
