1. Because we were never

2. Because it affects the poor more than anyone else.
Middle class people have insurance and the insurance companies end up paying the Government. Remember Katrina? The rescuers had a problem getting some people on the boats. Why? Because the poor being rescued did not have the money to reimburse the Government (Now During Katrina the Rescuers did NOT charge the people being rescued, but the poor are so use to being Nickeled and Dimed the poor just presumed it to be true).

The rationale behind this is SOMEONE has to pay for this service AND NOT THE TAXPAYERS.

That is wrong, that is plain wrong!! Why else have a federal government if they aren't going to take over and do ..... in an emergency???

4. Is there somewhwere we can find out if there was ever a charge?
I know when I lived in TX, they finally did impose a charge for rescuing people from flooded streets because they had water depth poles everywhere there was a potential problem, and they put up saw horses to bloce people from entering, but some of the goofy natives just drove around the road block becasue they thought "THEY" knew what they were doing. TX voted to charge them when they got caught in the cross current and risked drowning.

I have never heard of Americans being charged for rescue from a dangerous situation in a foreign country, but I don't know if it ever happened!

15. I think I have the answer. Fees will be waved.
I just received this emai from CNN.

Evacuation fees for Americans being helped to leave Lebanon will be waived, two Republican senators tell CNN.

I also heard Lou Dobbs talking about how awful it was for our Gov't to charge these Americans. He said every person should be able to depend on their Gov't to rescue them from an unexpected dangerous situation without any strings attached!

6. Because it's only 3 years old
I need to look it up, but once I realized how young it was, I assumed they snuck it in right before the Iraq war so it didn't get covered. Nice, isn't it? :grr:

I also just LOVE how they don't have the courage to tell us HOW MUCH they are charging. I wonder if kids are also charged the full rate or if they get a discount. Oh, and one more thing...you don't charge people AND tell them they can't bring their pet. That adds cruelty to insult.

12. Yep, the bill that charges Americans for evacuations like this
was passed in 2003 according to CNN. I'm looking for information on it right now and will post it when I find it. Also, I've read speculations that the charge is anywhere from $150 to $300 USD so imagine having a family of 4 you need to evacuate. It would add up fast.

7. Because
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 04:44 PM by stellanoir
the ass wipes in charge don't give a flying flop about the people. They only are beholden to their corporate contributors and lobbyists.

We no longer have a representative legislature and with the voting systems entirely corrupted, it compels one to wonder. . .for what pray tell are we paying them for?

Go figure.

A requiem for democracy may be in order, and a tea party too.

14. it's called a "user fee",
kinda replaces the tax thing everyone gets upset about. Hey, think of it this way, If you need an ambulance and can't afford them to come for you , too bad. We wouldn't want to pay for your transportation to an ER or hospital, you should have taken care of it on your own. So, we get to die in our own shit because the wealthy already have their own ambulances and emergency rooms and we're just flotsam on the sea of life. Gaud, these farkers sicken me.
