toyota working on Plug in Hybrid
In a speech before the National Press Club in Washington, DC, Jim Press, president of Toyota Motor North America said that Toyota is pursuing a plug-in hybrid vehicle. He also said that the company is strongly considering introducing flex-fuel vehicles for the US.

4. About 12'
You only plug them in to top-charge the (larger) batteries cheaply.

It is a proper fuel-electric hybrid otherwise.

12. That 12' will limit your range. I have a longer cord for my weed whacker

Naturally, I'm just kidding, as I was in the first post.

Yet I find myself amused by the thought of a car with a very long cord.

Perhaps it's because it's 106° outside. I've got proof of Global Warming right here in my shorts.

What great neighbors. I can only hope that they are avid supporters of Bush.

9. They should put a microwave and freezer in it
so you could make breakfast while sitting in traffic.

3. I don't think I have the memory for a plug-in car...
I could just see it right now. "Sorry, I'm not going to be able to make it into work today. I forgot to plug my car in last night."

6. And that would be OK. It would still work!
That is the beauty of it. You CAN plug it in, but you do not NEED to.

7. And even better than that in short trips.
On short trips at 30 mph or less, it is a pure EV. The Internal Combustion Engine only kicks in above 30 MPH.

The hacked Prius.. http://news.com.com/2100-11389_3-6074671.html

15. Probably warranty issues
They'd want to make sure they wouldn't overstress the circuitry in your home, limit the amp draw, etc.

11. Some Prius owners have apparently modified their cars to do
this already, so Toyota is simply responding to marketplace demands...gee, I wonder why they're so successful?

21. hm, all I see is "by 2010" here and there, do you know where you saw 2008?
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 06:12 PM by jsamuel
do they mean 2008 models or THE YEAR 2008, which is quite different. Because they are already selling the 2007 Camery.

24. As I discovered when I ran my Prius out of gas one day, it's a great
pure-electric vehicle as is, but with a very limited range. Since everything is set up to work without an internal combustion engine running, then it's a very short step to plug-in hybrids.
