Lesbian wins historic race in Alabama
Washington DC – July 18, 2006 – Patricia Todd made history today when voters in Alabama’s 54th legislative district voted to send the Democrat to the State House, marking the first time ever that legislature will include an openly gay Representative. The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, the nation’s largest gay and lesbian political action committee, endorsed Todd and helped raise tens of thousands of dollars from its national network of donors to help fund her campaign. Todd has no Republican opponent in the general election in November.

“The road to equality in Alabama is a mile shorter today,” said Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Victory Fund. “Gays and lesbians in Alabama will now have what all Americans deserve--a voice and a vote. Alabama knows well what a single voice can accomplish. We applaud Patricia’s courage in stepping up to be heard,” Wolfe said.

2. Great news.
we're fed such a line of bull from the corporate press and the repukes as to "who" we are and what we'll do.

Red state/blue state--it's pretty much horseshit when you get down to it.

I would wave back at you, but that would be risking a vicious circle, and I can't put my universe at risk like that! ;)

13. What most people from elsewhere don't understand about
Alabama is that we are a state of extremes. If we are conservative, we are very conservative and if we are liberal, we are very liberal. I congratulate Ms Todd and wish her the best (I do hope she can afford some protection, because we do have some serious wackos down here). This is extremely good news, not just for gays and lesbians, but for all Alabamians who want to live in a better state - and world.

That is so cool!!!It's things like this make me think that the Bushco Empire is slowly starting to crumble. I used to live in B'ham Nice folks there.(Hi, Syrinx! :hi:). Now I'm in Georgia, where Ralph Reed was defeated in his bid for Lieutenant Governor, and our outgoing Secretary of State, Cathy Cox, a Democrat, was defeated in her bid for Governor. Cox was responsible for Diebold here.
Karma can be a bitch, huh.
The times they are a changing. :bounce: :woohoo:

19. She will represent the most liberal district in the State
and I'm sure she will be marginalized in the House, but the fact of the matter is that Rep. Todd is a shinning light in an otherwise dark area. She can proudly stand up and speak as an equal in the House on important progressive issues....she will be heard. Patricia is a wonderful and strong person. She WILL be heard!

Another beautiful thing here is that the rest of the country will look at Alabama as a leader in inclusive politics. Let me say that again folks....ALABAMA as a leader in inclusive politics. Yes, she represents the most liberal district in the State, but I will guarantee you that her influence will be felt!

Congratulations Patricia! We are all proud of you!!!!

Even though she represents the most liberal district in the state. She has a voice that demands attention.

The next time Gerald Allen (yes, click that link. It's amazing!) introduces another one of his crazy anti-gay bills. I want to see him and Patricia Todd debate!

If my car won't start, I will walk to Montgomery to see that! :)

she's a lesbian, I hope she'll get right into the State House and make those neanderthal dumbshits who pass for con-servative "moral values" jerks have to FACE one of the people they try to discriminate against. . .
