PARIS (AFP) - French President Jacques Chirac has called for "humanitarian corridors" in Lebanon to protect civilians from Israeli bombardment and announced the dispatch of a cargo-plane with medical aid.
"Humanitarian corridors need to be set up inside Lebanon to allow the movement of people... They need to be able to do it with a certain level of security," Chirac said aftyer a cabinet meeting.
"And corridors also (are needed) between Lebanon and the outside, in other words essentially for the moment between Lebanon and Cyprus," he said.
An aircraft carrying medicines, water-purification units and field generators wil fly to Cyprus Wednesday and the cargo will be taken by boat to Lebanon, he said.
