According to my cousin in Lebanon
Israel is bombing more than just Hezbollah targets. He lives in a Christian area and they are bombing there as well.

2. I'm not sure I understand what Israel is doing
I mean. The rocket attacks are from the south right? these things don't have tremendous range. Why not bomb the hell out of the places the rockets are comign from. Swift retribution on the launchers.

Their bombing on supposed Hezbollah targets in civilian areas or on infrastructure I think is questionable. HEck they even warned that one area. What's the point in bombing a place to try and get a guy, if you warn the neighborhood first? It's as if you don't actually want to get the guy, and just want to blow up innocent people's homes.

3. I was thinking the same thing watching the news.
I thought Hezbollah was in the southern part of the country. Why are they destroying Beirut and other parts in the north. I am sorry for your cousin and all of Lebanon. We are praying for Israel to stop.

4. Oh, but don't you know, Hezbollah is hiding everywhere
In southern Beirut, in the Christian area, in cookie factories, in schools and hospitals. Yep, they are hiding everywhere except for where the rockets are coming from, the mountains and desert, the countryside surrounding Beirut and other cities. After all, we damn well know that Hezbollah isn't out there:sarcasm:

6. I've been assured of this right here on DU.
I am amazed at the folks here who appear to have no limit to what they will tolerate and rationalize.

7. I believe there was a thread about this here earlier today
with a link to a news source. I wondered when I read it why they were bombing Christian areas, since Christians don't like Hezbollah, according to the article.

Do you think this will enrage the "Christian" right here in the US? Or would it take bombs killing the members of a funy tour over there?

8. Israel Targets Milk, Medicine Factories / Hizbullah Kills One in Nahariyah
Israel Targets Milk, Medicine Factories
Hizbullah Kills One in Nahariyah

Israeli troops invaded Lebanon again early Wednesday morning, on what Israeli spokesmen called a limited search and destroy mission.

Hizbullah sent more rockets on northern Israel, killing one person at Nahariyah.

The death toll late Tuesday stood at 235 people killed in Lebanon and 25 in Israeli. About half of the Israeli deaths were military personnel. Only a handful of the Lebanese deaths have been military, and only a fraction of those have been Hizbullah fighters. In fact, have even ten Hizbullah guerrillas been killed by the Israelis since this fight began? They say it is a fight with Hizbullah. But then they bomb Greek Orthodox churches and milk factories far from Shiite areas. Hmmmm.

Lebanese question world's silence

By Christian Henderson in Beirut

Wednesday 19 July 2006, 16:12 Makka Time, 13:12 GMT

The Lebanese army is unable to rein in Hezbollah

Many Lebanese say the failure of the international community to resolve the crisis in their country is worsening the situation.

They fear the escalation has become a zero-sum game that will get worse unless pressure is put on both sides, but so far there is no sign that intervention will come.

Amal Saad-Ghoreyeb, author of Hizbu'llah: Politics and Religion told Aljazeera.net that "The international community is doing very little to end the conflict. If you look at the G8 and the UN Security Council none of the members have the inclination to call for a ceasefire.

"I don't think any of these parties have much clout to put pressure on Israel to end the onslaught apart from the US, and there is an absence of resolve on the behalf of the US to pursue any ceasefire," she said.

11. Do I See a Parallel Here?
Bush - avoided Vietnam in Air National Guard, invades Afghanistan and Iraq, threatens others to prove how tough he is.
Olmert - no real military experience in a country that makes a political fetish out of military service, unleashes total war in two countries for a couple of minor kidnappings ('cause let's face it - even the War Criminal Sharon would have quietly negotiated a release after a few pro forma rounds from a howitzer) and threatens two other countries (Syria & Iran.)
Or maybe I just need a tinfoil hat.

16. I don't understand the whole thing about bombs
like people actually expect them to hit their targets. They are bombs. Why do people suffer under the illusion that they actually hit what they are supposed to hit? It doesn't make any sense. Which is not to rule out that they aren't being aimed in the wrong places too.

town of Nazareth.

Both sides are killing just to be killing.

Of course our giggling emperor loves it.
