Lebanese PM: 300 Killed in Offensive

Lebanon's prime minister said Wednesday that 300 people have been killed, 1,000 have been wounded and a half-million displaced in Israel's week-old onslaught on Lebanon.

Speaking to a gathering of foreign ambassadors, Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said he would seek compensation from Israel for the "unimaginable losses" to the nation's infrastructure.

He also made an urgent appeal for an end to the fighting, saying Lebanon "has been torn to shreds."

"Is the value of human life in Lebanon less than that of the citizens of other countries?" he asked.

1. The answer is yes.

And no. It's worth less than citizens of America and Israel, apparently, but worth about the same as those in Afghanistan, Iraq, and any number of countries whose citizens don't count.

I had strange dreams last night about the Pilgrims (reading Mayflower so no surprise there) but somehow they were on the Gulf coast and that old Gulf oil logo was everywhere. Pilgrims talking about the Mid-East and the hurricane. Too strange that's for sure.
