Bush: God Speaks Through Me

Bush meets with Amish group during July campaign stop
By Jack Brubaker
Lancaster New Era

LANCASTER, Pa. — President Bush met privately with a group of Old Order Amish during a campaign visit to Lancaster County on July 9. He discussed their farms and their hats and his religion, and got a pledge for prayers, if not votes.

A member of the group told Bush that since most Amish do not vote, they would pray for him instead.

Bush had tears in his eyes when he replied, according to an Amishman who was present. Bush reportedly said he needs the prayers of the Amish and that having a strong belief in God is the only way he can do his job.

Sam Stoltzfus of Gordonville, an Old Order historian, writer and curator of the Pequea Bruderschaft Library, recounted the private meeting with the president, saying the Amish “caught Bush´s heart.´´

...
At the end of the session, Bush reportedly told the group, “I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn´t do my job.’

That Bush is such a fucking tool and asshat

Doesn't he get it?

The Amish have NEVER voted, their way of life does not condone that.

I, being a MD native have had experiences with the Amish, especially in St. Mary's County, MD, Lancaster, PA, AMISH country.

I remember when I was a teen, my father and I went to the Chesapeake Bay, near Lexington Park, to sail, I met a girl with dark clothes on the beach and asked her name. I don't remember the name, but I remember their buggy not that far from the beach. They were collecting shells and enjoying the water.

Their way of life is so much different from ours, in a way imo, simplistic and not compicated, my beef they are very religious.

7. Growing up, being "touched by God" wasn't a compliment
and folks claiming that "God speaks through me" were referred to as being "touched by God" (ready for a padded cell)

I grew up in Georgia, granddaughter of a Baptist preacher.
