Hate Filled Private Messages
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 05:45 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
What do you when you get hate filled private messages?

I guess this conflict is bringing out the worst in some of us.

Peace

1. Alert the mods and the admins.
Copy and paste the text into an email to the admins.

Were I you, I wouldn't respond to the hateful PM, though.

3. I Didn't Alert The Mod Yet
I gave the person three chances. I warned him or her that the next private message will be sent to the mod.

The fourth poisoned private message and I'm alerting the mod.

6. alert the mods right away
people who do this would probably do the same to other people. let the mods try to get it under control by warning them or even banning them depending on their opinion of the situation.

it could be that the person has a history of doing it to others in which case it would be best to ban them.

5. No need to e-mail, there's an "alert" button when reading PMs.
Bottom right corner.

7. I Have Had Two
This is my second in three years.

The first one was hilarious. This guy and I were exchanging F Bombs because I criticized Perdo Martinez for throwing Don Zimmer to the ground. Pedro Martinez was a relatively young pitcher for the Red Sox who threw a seventy year old Don Zimmer to the ground when he charged him. He charged him because he felt Martinez was "throwing" at one of his players.

It was my contention that if an "old man" charged me I'm going to try to avoid him at all costs rather than hurt him.

By the way Don Zimmer had a plate in his head.

16. I almost got banned in a thread relatin' to that topic....
....as I took the same position you did on the subject...amazingly the same people who defended Peedro's actions were expressing concern for me and my defense of Mr. Zimmer...because I got so infuriated at the backassward justification of Peedro's actions from self-professed *pacifists* they personally attacked me and then feined concern that I was takin' it all too seriously.

Sorry to hear it's continued to be a problem for you! :hi:

18. I'm Not Quite A Pacifist
But if a deranged old man attacks me I would rather run away than hurt him.

The pro-Martinez camp said if he did that it would have looked like Don Zimmer "punked" him.

25. Looking Back Pedro Could Have Hurt Him A Lot Worse
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 06:53 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
But while throwing him down like a matador wasn't the best option it wasn't the worst either.

At least he didn't clothesline him.

27. the whole thing was shameful to the game and the fans....
....both sides got way too self-righteous and indignant...it should NOT have happened in the first place but that pitcher knew what he was startin' when he threw the pitches that were dangerous of hittin' people to begin with...ahhh damn it was all totally unnecessary all the way around...and tarnished the entire sport for me as it's never been quite the same since. :(

directed at me in the public forums since this Israel/Lebanon thing began so I am surprised. I guess the people who hate my guts are a bit more decent in that regard.

26. same for me. I actually probably deserve a few hate PM's
and my opinion on all things war related are pretty fixed like you said. I admit it.

I figure if i dish it out i better be ready to take it. still, though, doing it via PM if you never had a PM relationship with the person before is lame.

I don't recall you ever posting imflammatory stuff, btw. most people who do stick out in my mind.

8. Definitely alert the mods and admin -- but you can also turn off pm.
Click on "Options" (see icons at the top of the page) and then click on "Edit your preferences". Go down the list and you will see that you can disable the private message function. You can change it back any time you want.

Hope this helps.

11. Oh, I love the pm function, too. I was just suggesting a temporary fix.
My thought was that if you wanted immediate relief from hateful messages, you could just make it impossible for that person to send them until (s)he is dealt with by admin.

I wouldn't want to be without the pm function, either -- but as a strictly temporary option, I thought it might help your blood pressure. ;)

If this person is taking their vitriol off the board and into PM's, that's crossing the line. I'd give them no further chances.

20. Actually, I try to talk to them
I just don't let them get me angry. If I'm angry, I wait until later to respond.

I can usually get most people calmed down and get them to behave more rationally. It's not that hard. I even made 'friends' with some guy that kept calling one night to tell me he wanted to kill me. By the third call, he thanked me for talking to him and promised to never call again.

19. As everyone else said-- alert on them. There's no reason...
to tolerate hate on this board-- there's already enough animosity to go around, and this is abusing the PM system.

You can also put the person on ignore so you won't get any more messages from him or her.

If I'm not mistaken anyone on your Ignore list can't PM you. As my Ignore list has grown I check it periodically. It is interesting how many of the obnoxious posters on the list have ended up tombstoned.

I copied & pasted it, and sent it to friends here, so that we could share a giggle. We were shocked -- SHOCKED, I tell you -- when the fellow was tombstoned a couple days later. He had such potential.
