Lower than shit = Being Dan Quayle's personal spokesman.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/people_quayle_mellencamp

-snip-

LOS ANGELES - Don't expect Dan Quayle to attend another John Mellencamp concert. The former vice president, miffed about a comment made by Mellencamp about President Bush's administration, walked out of the singer's July 14 show at Harvey's Lake Tahoe Casino in Stateline, Nev.

Mellencamp, unaware that Quayle was in the audience, introduced the song "Walk Tall" by saying, "This next one is for all the poor people who've been ignored by the current administration."

Quayle, who was in town for a celebrity golf tournament, then made his exit, deciding "enough was enough," his spokesman, Craig Whitney, told the Los Angeles Times for Friday's edition. "He wasn't going to sit there and listen to this."

-snip-

And you just gotta love the link to this webpage at the end of the article:

5. "I deserve respect for the things I did not do" (Dan Quayle)
quite a few more gems by Quayle at this site, almost as funny as Bushisms:

http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/d/dan_quayle.html

"For NASA, space is still a high priority."

"I have made good judgements in the past. I have made good judgements in the future."

"I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix."

"I understand the importance of bondage between parent and child."

"I want to be Robin to Bush's Batman."

"It's time for the human race to enter the solar system."

"It's wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago."

"My friends, no matter how rough the road may be, we can and we will, never, never surrender to what is right."

"The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century."

"This President is going to lead us out of this recovery."

"We expect the Salvadorean officials to work towards the extremination of human rights."

"What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."

"Votes are like trees, if you are trying to build a forest. If you have more trees than you have forests, then at that point the pollsters will probably say you will win."

8. Mr. Whitney, you're no Pierre Salinger
I've provided this quick link so that you can look up who Pierre Salinger is, then laugh at my joke.

10. you have to wonder how something like this could become Vice President
of course looking at what we have now, he would probably be an improvement. probably would spend most of his time railing against tv shows and music rather than creating a mess in the world.

11. My particular theory
is that Daddy Bush chose Quayle as his VP because he reminded him so much of his own little boy. You gotta admit, DQ and his malapropisms are eerily familiar to what we have been hearing from * for the past six years.

13. heyyy, that's what I always said
when we actually saw the CHimp nationally in 2000 it made much more sense why he would pick someone like Quayle.

we were suppose to adopt this puppy from one of my aunts neighbors and then he comes with his wife (guess they were moving to Telluride, CO and this was Montrose which is outside) and the woman was like...since this is the ex vice president he needs the puppy. I feel so bad for that dog :(.

18. HAHAHA... he doesn't like criticism - but made a career out of doing
the same to others. Remember, the entire phenomenon of divorce and single parent families - was the Murphy Brown show and the main character's decision to have a child out of wedlock. BooHooHoo Mr. Quayle. Take some sips of your own medicine - or chose to never make another critical word about someone (real or just a tv character) with whom you do not agree.
