Poll question: Microsoft's version of the iPod
Microsoft Corp. said Friday that it is building a music player to challenge Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod, confirming months of speculation that the world's largest software maker was preparing to enter the $4 billion market.

The first products go on sale this year and are being developed under the code name Zune, Microsoft said in an e-mailed statement from General Manager Chris Stephenson. A service will rival Apple's iTunes.

So the question is, how long before the this microsoft invention is recalled because of fatal bugs, or the user must download a new OS to fix the problems (both hardware and software) that Microsoft will build into its product?

1. Other -- the product will come, be adequate . . .
And go unnoticed.

We are talking Microsoft AND hardware, right?

But look out for version 6.0!

13. Actually, the original Xbox had sales, worldwide, that were on par...

with the Nintendo Gamecube, with the PS2 enjoying a 5 times lead on both. The Xbox has a total worldwide sales of about 22 million units, the Gamecube about 21 million, and the PS2 at about 103 million. As far as the Xbox 360, well, system freezes/overheating, shortages, and lack of games seems to have hampered sales of that system though it should pick up steam further along the line. Right now it stands at about 5 million sold since its release a year ago.

2. Won't matter how crappy it is
3rd version will be "good enough" and will devour the market if Apple isn't on its toes.

3. By then Apple wil have moved on and the iPod will not
be the big thing for Apple. MS will be put back into the position of playing catch up. MS is fighting a conventional war, Apple is fighting a guerrilla war.

Apple has won the war of hearts and minds.

Their ad campaign showing a cool guy (Mac) and a nerd (PC) is not creating a perception, they are reinforcing the perception.

Let's face it Che was always cooler than Edwin Meese. The rebel is always cooler than the scowling suit.

The spirit lives

5. Bugs were inherent in MS many years ago, not anymore.
Plus, Sony will be manufacturing it and will not allow a faulty device to be sold in their name. I believe it will bite a huge chunk out of Apple.

6. I have an early, if not the first, hard-drive MP3 player.
The Creative Nomad. It works just fine. The size of a normal, portable CD player. 4 Gig of memory. It suits my music demands.

I will not be buying an iPod. I will not be buying a Microsoft anything.

their stock buy back has nothing to do with the writing on the wall.
All we need to know for its future is Jesus saves, Gretzky scores.
