Poll question: What would be the best change to Air America's night time line up?
Since Janeane has left and the future of Majority Report is in question, what would you like to see happen?

1. Honestly, if they're going to gid rid of MR and Sam,
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 07:56 PM by CaseyBuck
and I hope they don't, I'd put Mike on at 7, and Peter Werbe at 10. Mike deserves a better timeslot, and Peter hasn't had a national show in over 3 years. It would be like the good ol' i.e. America days, with Mike, Peter, and Thom again.

9. I agree that Mike needs a better time and they was why I put that as the
first option. From listening to MR last week, there is a possibility that it won't continue. With that, and Sam becoming a better broadcaster, I was thinking to put him on at Mike's slot or the weekend. It would be a shame if he doesn't continue at AAR in some capacity, but it is also important to get top talent in at prime hours.

Mike getting best radio broadcaster award in NYC and then getting taken off the air doesn't make a lot of sense. Therefore, switch with Sam.

2. I think they should leave the evenings alone, Sam does fine
by himself. Thom Hartmann should replace Jerry Springer. Hell, three hours of elevator music is preferable to Springer.

6. How about, Al moved down to replace Springer. Hartman into Al's
present slot. I like Sam where he is, the more I hear him, the more I like him. (As with Thom Hartman: the more I hear him the more I like him. He's a strong, logical voice for liberals.) Probably a pipe dream, that one.

Rumor has it that Springer is paying for his AAR slot. This is somewhat akin to how Ed Schultz has muscled his way on to AAR affiliates by paying for his slot with a traditional barter strategy.

What is really needed in the long term (or perhaps a nearer term than "long") is an AAR1 and AAR2. That way talkers like Guy James or Jerry Springer would have a voice, and we would have a choice on different stations in the same market.

Yes, this is a REAL pipe dream, 2 stations/networks in each major market or at least on the internet or satellite when AAR has trouble keeping what it has afloat.

11. AAR 2 or even another liberal talk network would be great......
Frankly, I think AAR made a huge mistake in getting rid of Morning Sedition and removing Unfiltered from the 9 to Noon spot. It would be nice to hear Marc Maron somewhere else, especially since they dropped his L.A. show.

8. I agree. Can't take too much of Springer. I guess they picked him because
of name recognition. I'm usually listening to Stephanie Miller streamed live if I'm listening to anything at that time.

3. Add new blood
A few choices would be Doug Basham, Mike Webb, Bernie Ward, Bob Kinkaid, and Guy James. Beyond that would be Jay Marvin, Jon Elliot, and too many others for my addled brain to recall right now. Set up a second team to fill in when a host isn't available. I love hearing Thomm Hartmann fill in for Randi or Majority Report, but that should be something that is done for every time slot. I got addicted to progressive radio in 2003 and consider AAR a Godsend, but they can do better.
Also I wouldn't mind if WLIB dropped the mind-numbing break music. Even if you don't listen 24/7, by the third break you're ready to rip your hair out if you enjoy music.

4. I like Janene's idea from a few months back:
"The Unrestrained Id" featuring Sam Seder and Marc Maron

(cue: sound of shofar blaring)

I miss Maron more than I can say....

7. That shofar makes me laugh. It's been lately aimed at Leiberman.

14. Ed Shultz is not Affiliated with AAR
So they can't do anything about him. Personally I don't care for him and wish our radio station would get rid of him, but I guess he appeals to enough people to keep him around.

15. He is syndicated separately and doesn't appear on Air America's website,
but Shultz appears on the Air America line-up in many of their markets.

Now if they would only get rid of Springer and syndicate Stephanie Miller's show. :)

13. Get more stations & affiliates! Is AAR in Philadelphia or Houston?
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 05:44 PM by LaPera
Two of the top six markets in the country.

Leave Mike alone already....He's kicking ass in the night time air....

If Malloy, wants more, he'll get more at AAR! He's the best and a daytime time slot would be deserved and maybe even welcomed by Malloy.

16. Dude. I'm not picking on Malloy. I think it is best if he does move to
7pm here and 4pm drive time in Cali. I feel he is too strong of a broadcaster to be on at 10pm east coast and not on in NYC.

Sam was saying he may not be on in a month; it's still being determined. So, give Sam a less advertiser-critical time while he's developing his chops because it would be a shame if he has to leave AAR.

As Mike is a strong broadcaster, so is Thom Hartmann. AAR just streams his live show and carries two shows on the weekend. That's a waste.

Never heard Guy James, but I may stream him since others here have mentioned him.

Also, for comedy, you can't beat Stephanie Miller. Her cast of left-wing moonbats is funnier than Al Frankin as he's a comedian. Ideally, Thom Hartmann would be best in Frankin's timespot since he is dragging these days.
