What are typical traits of a Limbaugh dittohead?
Edited on Fri Jul-28-06 02:23 PM by Bullshot
From my observation, these are common traits I've observed:

1. Has up to half of his/her teeth

2. Considers the gun he owns an extension of his/her penis

3. Doesn't think twice about dating cousins; is often the offspring of cousins.

4. Has abrasions on knuckles from dragging them on the ground.

Any other traits, please post them here.

BTW, I realize what I wrote in #2.

5. Intense pride in their ignorance
Extremely lazy; do not comprehend intellectual thought. Too proud to admit they are wrong. Votes against their own best interests as a result of their ignorance and pride. Per your post, the gun would be their penis.

Believes waving a flag and putting a magnet on their truck makes them a patriot.

13. Why are they so proud of ignorance?
Really. I work with a couple of people who never know what the liberals are talking about. They don't read. They don't know major news stories. They say "I've never heard that. When did that happen?" And they're not even ashamed of not knowing basic facts about our country and our world. There's no shame. In fact, they're proud.
They've never read George Orwell. Don't know who Aldous Huxley is. Fine. But they're so proud. They own up to their ignorance with exuberance.
You're right.
It's the lack of intellectual curiousity. And Bush has that in spades.
No wonder they worship him.

19. Because they are just hard working Americans
Education is just for wussy Liberals. I recall an Old West Wing episode when a campaign adviser wanted to adjust a speech downward to a lower denominator of the audience and President Bartlett said, as only he could, yes, God forbid we let anyone know we are well read. And their lack of intellectual curiousity and critical thought makes it so well for monsters like karl rove to rewrite history into cute lil soundbits. Its such a shame we have to fight that garbage every day; but unlike in the not too distant past, we are, by gawd fighting it now.

6. On the contrary...
I've known plenty of Limbaugh fans who dress nicely, have all their teeth, own no guns and come from decent families. There is only one truly defining characteristic of the dittohead -- an unthinking acceptance and parroting of everything Rush says.

For the record, I'm missing a tooth and I own several firearms ... hmmm... does that make me a Rush fan? Christ, I hope not!

11. No
But you might want to try the innoculation for it - at least 45 minutes of Keith Olbermann a week. Preferably during "The Worst Person in the World" segment. Which, BTW, doesn't play when Keith is on vacation! Errr.

the Worst Person in the World segment wouldn't be the same without KO intoning "and so, XXX ... your worst... person .. in the world!!"

and ignorant. Rush feeds into that combo, He validates both their anger and their ignorance. No need to check the facts; Rush is always right.

12. Yes. It's the "wanna bees" buzzing
they all think "I vote, therefore I am". Meanwhile, they're just feeding the top 1%. They, desperately, want to be part of that club, that very exclusive club. They think they're gonna hang out at Bush's ranch.
Not going to happen. They'll keep driving their leased car they can't afford, paying for gas on their maxed out credit card, going home to their mini-mansion, mortgaged to the hilt.
They make their own chains and then blame "the other" for their misery...women, minorities, different religions, cultures, immigrants. Everybody but themselves.
They're divorced. Again. They're not speaking to their children. Their co-workers avoid them.
Just look at the vehicles with the "W" stickers...it's an old guy, angry, with the steering wheel in a death grip.
But, hey, they're just one more GOP vote away from nirvana. Yes, just one more vote and they're a billionaire with a young, blonde wife and invitations from neo-cons to the Hamptons.
Dream on.

14. Pretty well nailed it.................
Yes to the maxed out cc's and living way over his head, thinks he'll become an "entrepreneur" (rush code word) any day now. (Amway, lol)
Right again with him forging the chains of his own imprisonment and of course blaming in descending order: government, minorities, women, impoverished, and not to bore you, others etc.

16. Actually, it's a bit more complicated, imo.
I know a very intelligent, formerly liberal couple who **loooove** listening to Limbaugh and have become Bush supporters and, well, assholes of the worst sort since they discovered his radio show. They are gun owners, but are professionals in their fields and otherwise don't fit your stereotype. I think it's important to try and figure out what in the world is going on in the heads of these people -- what does Limbaugh offer them?

Here's one guess: He makes them feel superior. They are people who have never quite succeeded in life the way they hoped, and it makes them feel good to blame liberals for it. Limbaugh has a very cajoling voice -- he makes you want to be on his side. Switching over to the Limbaugh side from the liberal side solved a LOT of inner conflicts for these people.

He tells people that whatever good stuff they have in life, they DESERVE. Any bad stuff, blame the liberals! It's an incredibly stupid but soothing philosophy. He gives people permission to be greedy and selfish and bigoted -- how refreshing, and what a change from damned liberals who are always trying to make people feel guilty about everything!

Limbaugh also encourages the (faulty) perception some people have that liberals are constantly judging others and finding them wanting. A story this dittohead woman told me gets to the heart of it for me: her liberal brother, who spent time in France, once told her the that "correct" way to dress a salad is to rub garlic around the bowl, which of course the dittohead hadn't done. The dittohead was hurt by this and was made to feel inferior by her "liberal" brother. Any sane, secure person would just think, "Whatever! I like my Ranch dressing!" but the type of person who is attracted to Limbaugh is DEEPLY insecure.

Anyway, just some thoughts. It's fun to characterize dittoheads and repubs in general as neanderthals, but there a *little* more going on there, I think.

and unable to empathize. Rush validates these feeling and appeals to the basest emotions, it makes them feel better to hear that what they feel is ok.
