Why is Qana getting so much media attention? Whats going on?
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 11:57 AM by NNN0LHI
I am not saying that Qana should not be getting the attention it is getting. It should be. I just don't remember the "accidental" killings of innocent Afghan or Iraqi civilian people, of which there were plenty, by our military ever getting this kind of non-stop coverage from our media.

I have posted plenty of reports of civilians being blown to smithereens by our own military over the past years and most of those same news stories never even made to cable news as a blurb. They were drowned out by missing blond women and shark attacks.

Something is very wrong here.

1. It wasn't us that did the killing. Otherwise we wouldn't know about it.

4. Yes, but if it wasn't for The Israeli Press, do you think CNN et. al.
would even KNOW about this situation? I am surprised at how candid the Israeli Press can be toward their government. It reminds me of OUR Press in the early and mid-70s.

6. Journalists aren't allowed into Iraq. No one is stopping them from going
into Lebanon. THAT is the difference.

20. I heard about journalists killed in the "buffer" zone,
and the response from Israel was, "they didn't have permission to be there..."

I can't find the link (everything on the web is Qana related today..) but I heard about it on NPR.

that because The Israeli Press is much freer than the USA, it stands to reason that WE ALSO (USA) would be granted broader access.

Unfortunately, methinks that the IDF will now "lock down" on access. :(

IMO, the Israeli populace has RESPECT for THEIR Press Corps, therefore, the IDF must also.

5. There was a great deal of coverage of the wedding party
in Afghanistan that was flattened by bombing because the men were celebrating in the traditional way by firing their guns into the air.

There was quite a bit of coverage of the other wedding party in western Iraq that was bombed to bits because faulty intelligence had identified that particular house as an insurgency safe house.

This particular act will get a lot of coverage because so many children were killed and because it was an apartment building that was hit by intention, not a near miss of a military target with "collateral damage." They meant to hit the apartments, and they did.

That's the difference.

7. The corporate media cover up our mistakes
Less pressure to cover up israel's?

Either that or you can go with the full blown conspiracy theory* - somebody wants us to dislike Israel.

*I don't use this term in a disparaging way.

The Israeli Justice Minister said a few days ago that everyone in south Lebanon was now a target. He damn well meant it.

I can think of some other ideas, but nothing convincing.

17. The Media Knows They Are Complicit
And are sensing a sea change of world opinion and condemnation of the obvious war crimes.

Howard was lucky to escape with his life in Australia after his car was swarmed by an angry mob.

This is going to start happening everywhere and anyone who is complicit in lying to cover up these crimes against humanity is at risk.

They have told one too many lies and it iw going to be a shitstorm of outrage from the whole world.

18. While the above replies do make sense...
I think there is in fact more to this...

I think they see this single act as possibly becoming much bigger. They think this could lead to the widening of the war, possibly into a total war between Israel and several ME states including Syria and Iran. So they are focusing on this act for two reasons, one to get ahead of the story, so they can easily explain why events occured, and POSSIBLY, and this is REALLY tinfoil, to ENCOURAGE the widening.

Remember Syria and Iran are definately on the table, and the necons have been searching for a justification. If they can get Syria and Iran to react to this attack, they get their justification free of charge.

Call me paranoid, but the US media never does ANYTHING that might compromise neocon plans...

24/7 funeral coverage, that's what we get.

The original post should be deleted.
