I propose a "Pit Bull" thread moratorium: there arebigger fish to fry

Although as a life long dog owner and minor canine scholar who sees nothing wrong with ANY properly trained and raised dog (ESPECIALLY the Pit, who is making a name for itself as a rescue, therapy, and obedience champion dog), I'm sick of this nonsense. Don't we have anything more important to get "rabid" about around here?

Has anyone contacted their elected reps in the past week? I have. At least 20 times, AND I went out of my way to talk to the Democratic candidate for state senate from our district, too.

All this with the wife fired from her job, my daughter going in for major surgery on Tuesday, and me with a badly sprained and possibly cracked ankle.

My dog should be safe at a dog park. That was the third attack by (3 different) pit bulls in that park. Pit bulls are no longer allowed in the park.

I'm not afraid of any dog...okay, except maybe for a few of the Akitas I've seen. Those are BIG dogs that could weigh as much as I do.

I don't approve of those who tolerate aggressiveness in large dogs. We put up with our pom's protectiveness because he's relatively small and primarily guards the house.

Some pit lines have been, yes. However, to make that claim and substantiate it from it's beginning, you'll need to take on the mastiff owners first.

I've been bitten by a dachshund and a chihuahua-terrier mix. And an out of control goose when I was only about as tall as the goose. I've never, on the other hand, been bitten by any of my Pits and none of them have bitten anyone. I do think this topic is useless in a way, when discussing it with those who lack experience with Pits. It's like being fluent in French, and having someone who doesn't know a word of French correcting your grammar "just because" and stamping their feet. :crazy:

I don't want a pitbull in my house nor around my kids, though. They aren't the only breed, and yes a large part is the owner of the dogs that I've wished I had something more than a CO2 pistol for.

However, he had to insert a line or two defending pitbulls and that took over. The people have spoken. Secure neighborhoods are important though, but does the issue get beyond the breed into dogfighting and people who use dogs as weapons/security?

i think if you contact your representative 20 times in a week it passes from being a concerned voter to being a stalker, so i think you are actually making yourself less effective there

Seriously. You sound like you are on the brink of critical mass because other people don't post the things YOU want them to post. Other people have their own priorities of what is important to them, and that may change from day to day. But we are all here because we have MOST of our political ideals in common. And everybody serves their party in their own way. Some people write letters to or call their elected representatives, some people go to protests, some people work for their candidates, some people try to educate others in the field... whatever. Just because not everyone does things YOUR way doesn't make them useless.
