When people cite the Bible in regards to the ME, they lose me.
Cspan callers, and certain members of my own family often cite biblical scriptures and will go on and on about it for hours if you let them.

The cspan guy just cut off one lady who was droning on and on about how prophecy is coming to fruition. I wish I could do the same.

"God gave the land to Isreal", and other quotes like that are beyond absurd.

2. You should do unto others that which you would do unto yourself
No wait, that's not how it goes...

3. We've got one of those here at work.
Why that kind of nonsense doesn't earn one a trip to a padded room I'll never figure out.

4. Because somehow, you are not allowed...
...to question people's religious beliefs.

It's the one form of insanity that you are just supposed to accept. It's killing the planet and it's the cause of the majority of the woes that we have brought upon ourselves, and yet, you are just supposed to accept it.

I for one am not going to accept it anymore. I for one have started a personal "crusade" to call it what it is.

INSANITY!!!

5. you can question their religious beliefs if it's anything other than
some flavor of xianity or another, then it's off limits, which is just plain silly.

christianity IS constantly questioned and ridiculed in the US

(and that's not a bad thing)

but you claim that only christianty is OFF LIMITS

that's absurd

Perfect Example: Piss Christ by serrano

please show me ONE example of a muslim analogue

nobody dares dunk a koran in urine, as an art display

so, the idea that questioning of christianity is off limits, whereas other religious are criticized at will is absurd and contrary to evidence

people are afraid of criticizing islam because of the (relatively small %age of muslims who are violent extremists)

that's why very very few US publications would print the famous cartoons, and why no american artist has come out with piss-koran, or has smeared a picture of mohammed in dung (but has no problem with doing the same to the (alleged) virgin mary)

8. We'll have to agree to disagree on that
because I see it differently.

I agree that xianity is ridiculed in the US, but not in the MSM for the most part. They wouldn't dare. Xian extremists are just as nasty as ANY extremist, and if you don't believe that, just go hang around an abortion clinic for awhile.

In what would be called 'polite society' you do not mock xian (or jewish) extremists, unless you feel like starting an argument, at least.

9. i can agree to disagree
but imo clearly the EVIDENCE supports my assertion, not yours

the US is over 70% christian

on a per capita basis, muslim extremists are far far far far more likely to commit violent crimes in the name of their religion, and the evidence supports that

and the MSM is far more likely to ridicule and question christianity than islam.

worldwide, we see the same thing

the fact that muslims would riot over CARTOONS shows this to be true.

there is no equivalency.

these wars are not being fought in the name of christiantity

many blame the neocons. here's a hint: neocons are disproportionately jewish, not christian

second of all, the wars are NOT being fought FOR christianity (or judaism or islam)

nice tangential strawman though

i repeat.

please show me the examples of christian extremists murdering those who criticize their religion.

i cited articles with numerous example

put your examples here: ---:>

13. as I said: Agree to disagree.
I don't see where we'll ever be able to reach a consensus on our viewpoints regarding this, and I think it's something we could debate for centuries.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

7. Me too.
I've had people actually walk up to me and ask if I'm
"rapture ready". I just say, "You bet I am. I can't
wait to get those freaks out of here so we can restore
sanity". Not nice, I know, but damn.

15. If They Were Really to Take the New Testament Seriously,
they would realize that Paul said that the "Old Israel" was cut off and that Christians are the New Israel.

I don't share that belief, but that's what Paul said. Some of Jesus' parables refer to God's abandoning the Jews and choosing a new people as well.
