Bush laughs off recession talk: "I hear a lot of prognosticators"
yeah, he hears a lot of warnings and he ignores them all, they all turn out to be right, and then he says "no one ever imagined..."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,206540,00.html

<snip>

CAVUTO: Still very strong. It's expected to be at or about that, I guess, for the remainder of the year. But there are some who worry that these higher interest rates, higher energy prices, are going to lead a severe slowdown, if not a recession...

BUSH: Yes.

CAVUTO: ... and soon.

Are you in that camp?

BUSH: No, I'm not at all. I mean, look, in my line of work, I hear all kinds of forecasts and, you know, prognosticators. And, you know, that's the great thing about our society, is, a lot of people are allowed to express themselves.

And, no, I'm not. I believe — listen, I believe that we're going to remain strong, precisely because of what you said. Look at what we have overcome to get here. I mean, we — it's — it's — it's a remarkable economy and a remarkable society that can overcome terrorist attacks, stock market corrections, corporate scandals, natural disasters, high energy prices.

You know, the United States aggressively pursuing our own — or our security — and, yet, the economy is good. And the reason why is, is because, you know, people have got more money in their pockets to — which helps them unleash this great creativity of the American people. And, plus, we got great workers.

And so, I — for the short run, I'm comfortable. Now, I'm not a forecaster, but I feel good about it, from what I see.

Cavuto is a useless troglodyte.

Of course what I just read was 100% psycho-babble. He didn't say anything of substance, just that he believes everything is peachy.

Nothing is ever "bad" for George W Bush. It's a temporary situation that smart entrepreneurs will take advantage of and help create new jobs in a booming economy...

13. I somewhat agree with him.
Despite high fuel costs people are doing well.

The only problem I see, and it does seem to be a problem is savings. People simply are not saving anymore and are relying on credit in times of need.

30. I'm not lecturing you.
I live in Oklahoma, hardly a center of economic prosperity and things are going great locally. Everyone that wants to work has a job.

The local murder rate is extremely high, I will say that. Its also extremely hot.

btw, do you have a written budget?

Lost my job about 7 weeks ago, so I`m REALLY into budgets. Didn`t mean to jump you just recovering from losing a job I planned to have until I retired. I`m not young so my options are very limited. My bad, BuhByeChimp, so sorry didn`t mean to flame ya!!

31. What "people" might you be referring to?
My savings has gone the way of all the "extra" money I don't have for increased heating bills, increased food costs for a family of 7, increased gas prices to get to work--and yes, I do save, but my savings are just about shot because of his bad policies and bad leadership. If you mean the "people" at the top 1% in this country, yeah, I'm sure they're doing just peachy. The rest of us are slowing starving to death and getting deeper in debt just to try to keep up. My paycheck certainly didn't go up with everything else.

I'm sure not in that camp. Everyone I know has been unemployed at least some of the time since then, like I was for 18 months. I'm working for just about what I was earning 10 years ago, and prices are quite a bit higher than in 1996, back when we had a real president.

33. There is a Severe Economic Recession on the Way
Because of higher energy prices and higher interest rates. This economy has had lackluster job growth since 2001, and the only "growth" there has been has been in speculative real estate, thanks to historically low interest rates from the fed from 2001 - 2004.

Now, interest rates have to rise in order to head off inflation brought on by higher energy prices and to balance out the RE speculation, and without a huge growth sector like information technology on the horizon, this recession will be a long one indeed.
