If Joe loses by ten (+) on Tuesday I don't think he will run as an Indy

If it is a landslide for Lamont on Tuesday I don't think Lieberman will run as an Independent. I think the pressure from the Democratic party will be on him to accept the primary judgement and gracefully endorse Lamont. He can't expect to get much joementum if he loses the primary by a landslide. Besides once he finishes his term he will be ready to earn some real money as a commentator on FAUX News or a lobbyist.

However if it is a close loss, all bets are off--Joe will claim "joementum"--"We were 13-points down in the polls last week and we came within a blink of the eye..." and will run as an Independent.

What do you think? Do you think he will want to be humiliated by a third party defeat in November?

I just don't think he will be able to turn his back on the Democratic voters of his state. He may not have been the best Democrat, but he has been a Democrat for a long time, and I think that will mean something to him.

and he really wants to stay in the Senate, so who the hell knows? But I'm inclined to think you're gonna be right if he loses by 10 or more points. I guess we'll know in a few days...

Of course the election is not over yet. Anything could still happen.

I almost feel sorry for Joe - almost. The bigger issue is the message this will send to the DC politicians...ignore the party base at your peril!

He's got campaign staff. They'll be aware of the situation.

If Joe loses the primary:

* He will not receive any Democratic Party assistance.
* Elected Democrats will be publically supporting Ned Lamont.
* He will lose much of his Democratic voter support.
* The only increase in support will have to come from Republicans.
* He will therefore lose in the general election.

I think if he loses next week, we'll have a day or two of no news and then Joe will concede defeat and announce his return to private life.

The tea leaves say.....really big loss for Lieberman. I think it's going to be quite substantial.

Have you seen what they have been doing to him at his campaign appearances? Somebody's been driving around with a "Kiss Float" which sits on top of someone's car. It's 2 statues of him & Bush kissing.

It's just horrible, and someone said this car is going to hound LIeberman wherever he goes.

Lieberman himself seems really subdued, flat, lacking in enthusiasm. Even his supporters seem really apathetic. Now if Ned Lamont weren't such a dynamo, it might not be such a tough battle. But he is, and my Magic 8-Ball says......:smoke:

The most important thing to do on Tuesday if Lamont wins is send him money. I mean major money. Hopefully that scares Lieberman away, and either way, Lamont will need it.

that he might pull off a win. How many polls have there been in recent elections showing candidate X ahead, only to have candidate Y win? There are always those voters who may tell pollsters one thing to help scare the hell out of ole Joe, only to actually vote for him come election day. I hope to God I'm wrong.

This year Joe expected a mild challenge and finds he has miscalculated, as Lamont's surge has been staggeringly effective.

If Lamont whips Joe next Tuesday, Joe's ego will urge him to run as a third-party candidate, but perhaps someone close to him, maybe his gracious and sensible wife, could explain that recent trends do not favor his certain re-election, that Lamont could overtake him in the general as well as the primary, that his alliances with the party are strained to breaking, that his war profile with Dubya has been found unacceptable by increasingly large percentages of Democrats, and that it is time to get his sorry ass out of the race.
