Sacramento police are investigating several attacks on homeless people on R Street between 16th and 17th streets over the last three months.
The most recent assault took place last Sunday at 3 a.m. at the intersection of R and 17th streets. The victim awoke to three male subjects yelling at him. The victim told police one man held him down while another beat him with a metal pipe. The victim sustained lacerations to his face.
The man told officers two of the same assailants beat him a month earlier on December 12. The victim said the men used a pipe and a stick to hit him. As in the later attack, the victim received lacerations that required medical treatment.
Police investigators suspect the two assaults may be related to simmilar incident on October 25, 2005. In that attack, two male subjects used a stick to beat a homeless person sleeping near a loading dock at R and 16th streets. The beating left the victim with two large lacerations on his head.
