"Thousands of British protesters demand Lebanon ceasefire " With Pics!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060805/wl_uk_afp/mideastconflictbritain_060805121034

LONDON (AFP) - Activists, claiming a groundswell of anti-war sentiment not seen since the US-led invasion of Iraq, have staged a mass protest against the conflict in Lebanon and demanded a ceasefire.

The rally, organised by the Stop the War Coalition, started at midday (1100 GMT) at London's Hyde Park and was to pass the US embassy and Prime Minister Tony Blair's Downing Street office before ending up opposite the Houses of Parliament.

The coalition's convenor Lindsey German said tens of thousands of demonstrators would protest.

"We are expecting a huge turnout because the British public is genuinely appalled at the events in Lebanon and does not agree with Tony Blair's response.

"People want an immediate ceasefire which respects Lebanon's borders.

"We believe people from all walks of life and from towns and cities across the UK will join the protest."

5. I'll put up a protest thread later (late night) because we
aren't going to hear it on teevee.

And, last week when I was surfing for stories, I had the distinct sense that Yahoo was scrubbing stories. I haven't caught them outright yet. Yet. :(

then check sky news & bbc news - using the .co.uk sites. Our newspapers go to print at about 10pm GMT but are composited <whatever they do these days> prior to that and the websites should already be updated prior to then. Check Guardian ,Independant, Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Times.

Yes - I too had wondered if your news might get edited.

Edit - forgot to include the socialist worker.

Just like only other nations have STAGED ELECTIONS and a CORRUPT PRESS CORPS.

3. where is the outrage in this country?
I find this war deplorable, I don;t understand why we are not asking for imediate cease fire! Surely we are not all in favor of this kind of unjust slaughter of the Lebanon people. I do not support Isreal in this horrible crime!

10. Why?
Can't Americans do that shit here?!! UGH!!!

The problem: we have completely lost our souls in this nation. It is because we have not been asked to sacrifice anything for this freakin' occupation in Iraq. We have been so apathetic, so desensitized about human life and human suffering, that we just sit on our fat duffs, eating Cheetos and talking about Britney's next baby!!

I love my country so much, but it's disgusting living with ignorant, moronic people sometimes.

Update: 7 Anti war activists arrested outside Downing St

As Israel's attacks on Lebanon continue, a large demonstration took place today in London. It started at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park and the march goes to Parliament Square. Some people suggested being "prepared for more than just marching". Organisers are claimed that over 100,000 people attended. The demands of the march are for an unconditional ceasefire now, to stop Israel's attacks on Lebanon and Gaza and to end Tony Blair's support for Bush's wars.

18. Interesting how UK police don't look like assault thugs in riot uniforms.
What? No tear gas? No beanbag guns or tasers? The UK...far more civilized that America, land of thugs and con-artists.
