I forgot just how truly awful Condi Rice is. In the last year or so, whenever I saw her on TV, I simply changed channels because I knew that whatever she was saying was a lie, and not even a convincing lie.
But for some reason I was just actually watching her for three or four minutes with Tim "Spud the Potato Head" Russert. Maybe it was because I had been watching two or three minutes of a CSPAN broadcast of Ann Coulter, and almost anything is more tolerable than watching Ann Coulter.
So anyway Russert reads the quote from Richard Haas in last week's papers in which he reacted to Bush's saying that the Lebanon war is an "opportunity". Haas laughed outloud and said so what is Iraq? A once in a lifetime chance?
In other words, Condi, former high ranking officials are actually laughing out loud at how bad your policy and your boss's rhetoric are.
So what was Condi's substantive, well thought out answer? She brings up the old tired cliche, spouted by every two bit motivational speaker and bloviating New Age huckster, about the word in Chinese for crisis being "danger" and "opportunity." Besides being simply wrong -- it's an incorrect myth about the Chinese language -- it's just incredibly trite.
What's next Condi? Formulating US foreign policy on the basis of the sayings of Yoda?
We must conquer our fears or our fears will conquer us! According to ancient Chinese character, inside every crisis is danger and opportunity!
What's next Condi
