3. They're fill-in Republicans
The real Republicans are all on their August vacations. You know, planning the next 9/11, the next invasion, the next occupation, the next tax cut for the wealthy, not to mention getting ready to roll out their new marketing campaign.

Sam and Cokie are quite comfortably retired. They are simply supplementing their incomes and, more importantly, their egos.

And as Andrew Card noted in 2002, "From a marketing point of view, you don't introduce new products in August."

It all happens after Labor Day. After all, George Will must need to rest after this year's Bohemian Grove extravaganza.

My goodness.
