One person, not 40, dead in Israel strike -Lebanon
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 11:10 AM by cal04
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said on Monday that one person had been killed in an Israeli air strike on the southern border village of Houla, rather than 40 as earlier feared.

A resident said about 50 people had been found alive under the rubble.

"The massacre in Houla, it turned out that there was one person killed," Siniora told reporters. "They thought that the whole building smashed on the heads of about 40 people ... thank God they have been saved."

3. Hmm they are getting sloppy in the PR war

(both sides perchance not one)... I mean according to HRW the death count at Qanna was in the 20s, three days later... (and yes way too many civies are getting killed ON BOTH SIDES)...

Good that only one person was killed, but this is not the kind of correction I expect to see the same day... cynicism about state actors and lack of morality in war...

9. Who Originally Reported the 40 Dead?
I couldn't see who came out with that initial figure in that Reuter's story.

The sad problem of the 24/7 news world...rumor and misinformation travels the world while the truth is getting its shoes on. The first impressions of this war is all that get splashed and then there's little follow up on what really happened. It's the first spin that wins.

Yes...any civilian death...Lebanese or Israeli is wrong and this must be stopped. Counting casualties and saying since one side lost more than the other that their cause or credibility is stronger denegrates the tragedy being suffered by people on both sides of this unnecessary conflict.
