Who besides the U.S. gives Israel $$'s and Arms?
I heard Israeli spokesmand David Siegel say that Israel wants the world's support in it's fight against Hezbollah.

I'm ignorant, so help me out, does ANYONE else support them, and if there are others, how does their support compare with ours?

2. Germany does. Also the US doesn't "give" arms
to Israel. It sells them. Often the military deals are such that US grants to Israel go directly to US arms. Helps keep the military industrial complex intact.

Israel itself has a fairly robust defense industry as well and is also a leading supplier of arms to other nations (remember them wanting to sell advanced detection gear to China?)

Israel will have plenty of European gear in its weaponry assortment and some Russian as well.

It is a world market for arms so they buy what they need and no one out there refuses to sell it to them to the best of my knowledge.

5. True, we sell the arms.
It would be fair if we gave both sides the necessary funds and bullets to keep the party going.

13. THe US gives Israel $2.1 billion a year in military aid
and 600 million in economic aid. Those are the figures.

It is the 2nd most after Iraq.

3. Here's a link to an article about
German aid to Israel. I believe France has sold arms to Israel, but I'm not completely sure.

4. yes - others do support but Israel is the US's forward military base -no
one else's.

It is no longer 3rd world or developing, so there is no reason for "aid" from other countries. Indeed it gives other countries aid in various ways.

If you are speaking of UN support - oil money problems attach to public support of Israel and almost all countries chose to avoid those problems.

As to criticism of Israel that is unbiased, the Israeli paper Haaretz does an excellent job and is used by most of us on DU as a good source of factual information.

7. in spite of the rhetoric most countries do support israel's
fight against terrorism. india in particular is a trading partner but tries to keep that info on the down low because of its large muslim population.

14. You will find that Egypt receiving support from the EU
via a variety of its programs. In the future the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) will provide the main channel of support focused on raising the standards of EU neighbours who will never be members.

It does work on energy, labour, health and other standards so that the "neighbourhood" is a nice place to live in.

Not sure at the moment how much this will amount to. In addition, you will find a variety of the European development agencies - especially the GTZ in Germany - are active in most of the countries in the ME.
