Why was Jim Woolsey on The Daily Show?
Seriously, even Jon Stewart seemed baffled by the former CIA director and PNACer's appearance on the show. James Woolsey doesn't have a book that he's promoting and there is no substantial policy issue that he is involved in that would warrant such an appearance. In fact just what is James Woolsey up to these days?

1. I thought it was strange, too...
but here's where you can book him to speak:

2. Bremer and Woolsey back to back...
And yeah Stewart did seem pretty weirded out by that fact Tuesday night...

I hope this is the end of the Repugs on the show for awhile. I like John but he doesn't have a nail them mentality to his interviews so he plays off his skits as silly to be nice to them and it waters down the fact that even in that inherent silliness lies the absolute absurdity that is the truth these days.

3. Jon joked "can we blame you for 9-11?"
I found the interview with a CIA Director from the early 90's verrrrrry interesting too. Mr.Woolsey was fun too, didn't have a political or book agenda.

There's a method to Stewart's madness :)

5. Yeah, Woolsey came off as a personable guy.
Made me forget the evil of which he is capable, but only for a moment.

4. Wollsey is an avid supporter
of environmental issues and a push to free ourselves from our addiction to middle east oil. Here's a Grist article about him: http://www.grist.org/news/maindish/2005/06/07/little-woolsey/

10.  - if true, then I don't get his strong support for
sustainability and alternative energy/getting off Saudi oil??

"It's very much a part of the way I live. My wife serves on the board of the Rocky Mountain Institute. We have a Prius and just got a new Lexus hybrid SUV, which will get close to 30 miles per gallon -- twice the mileage most SUVs get. We live on a farm south of Indianapolis and sometimes need to haul stuff around, and my feeling is if people need to have an SUV they ought to be able to have an SUV, so long as it's as fuel-efficient as possible. We have solar on our farmhouse and solar-thermal panels for the hot water."

The Rocky Mountain Institute isn't exactly a hotbed of PNAC supporters. I've heard the guy speak at a meeting up in DeeCee and he's very sincere in his beliefs re. issues discussed in the Grist article.

I don't get it...

11. Well consider he is "former" CIA
He could just be lying. He could actually see the need to get off the oil buzz but that could be for several different reasons.

Who knows? We do know that he at least was PNAC.

13. I know he's BIG into the link between
Oil and national security. I beleive he's dead on on this issue. Global warming is one thing - but the more immediate threat is disruption of the U.S and world economy should the oil supply line be interrupted - which unfortunatly we teeter on the edge of.

One of the things Woolsey said when I heard him was that if a terrorist was to take out the desulfuring towers at one Saudi refinery, (i.e. with a well aimed shoulder-launched missle), the price of oil could easilly jump to a couple hundred dollars/bbl.

Here's another article/interview (short read): http://www.cleanedge.com/views.php?id=3909

6. Jon really was under-informed reWoolsey. Woolsey is 100% behind BushInc.
and cheerleaded the war incessantly.

Stewart acted as if Woolsey was just a bemused ex-Clinton CIA, when Woolsey worked AGAINST Clinton at every turn.

14. Whoa, I see that now.....
So much for using Stewart as my Numero Uno news source, Woolsey just bumped Keith to Number One :)

That sounded desperately underinformed, didn't it :(

15. he talked about Iran, Syria as radical IslamoNazis
Saudi Arabia was in his words "more complicated" then Iran, Syria. Hmmm, complicated because the Bush's are in their pockets?
These statements he made raised red flags, for me anyway.
