Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 07:13 PM by bigtree
Is he officially changing his affiliation or just campaigning as a Independent and keeping his position in Congress? What about committee positions? Will there be an attempt to strip him of those? What else does he stand to lose *in the period before the election?

6. Actually that's a good question....
Your question makes me wonder how much he is going to sabotage any work the Dems will try to get done through November? Because with his recent history he will back anything the * cabal promotes....which means that he is digging a deeper hole for himself....

10. Umm... I suspect he will not be recognized as either one.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 07:25 PM by EST
He won't be recognized at all 'cuz he AIN"T gonna be there to be recognized. Even the people in Ct. who see him skipping down the street will be saying, "there goes ol' whatzizname--you know--used to be somebody, somewhere..."

(They might also be sayin'--Dunno fer sure, but don't he look a lot like spongebob?)

13. I would think that this is fairly official.
Running in a general election against the Democratic Party nominee fairly well cuts him off. No Democrat worth a damn is going to support him.

15. He claims to be remaining an "independent Democrat"
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 08:11 PM by mcscajun
yet he's formed a new "party", "Connecticut for Lieberman". As another DUer called it, a "Party of One"

Unless and Until he either announces he really IS a Republican, throws yet another fit over no longer getting Democratic financial, logistical, and campaign support and announces he'll caucus with the Republicans, or he loses his seat in November, he'll remain a nominal "Democratic Senator".

A great many here at DU are calling for him to lose his committee positions, but I think we'll have to take a "wait and see" on that one. Tricky business for the Senate doing that before the election.

16. thanks for this response. wading through the jokes . . .
Stay tuned, in other words. Tricky business, indeed.

I'm not familiar with the manner of an independent Democrat. Is that like LaRouche?

(Jeez now I"M doing it)

18. "Independent Democrat" is an artificial construct.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 08:30 PM by mcscajun
Rarely seen in the wild, observations as to its eating, sleeping, and mating habits have not yet revealed if it has manners.
 (It's a game we can ALL play!) :bounce:

And NOBODY (*not anybody living anyway*) is like LaRouche.

17. The second he signed his name on the ballot as Independent
He is not A Democrat anymore in my opinion. A Democrat would support the other Democratic victor in a primary.

He is no Democrat anymore. not that he's been in a long while.

of committee assignments as the Senate isn't scheduled to be in session much more than a week or two between now and election day.

P.S. I was going to change the subject line but it was just too funny "won't be stripped" (I kill myself!) so I'm just editing to say that I recognize what the subject line could say and I like it that way!
