Who's The Real Joe Lieberman?
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 09:19 PM by joemurphy
It's fascinating to watch Joe Lieberman, in the space of 48 hours, morph from being the two-fisted civil libertarian fighter, the "champion of the people of Connecticut," the ultra-moral "nice guy" and self-anointed "conscience" of the Democratic party into something totally new and different -- a Republican. Now Joe's spouting nonsensical old Bush talking points. He wants to be a "uniter and not a divider". He wants to "put an end to partisan politics" and "work across the aisle" to "get things done". Indeed, 48 hours ago he was a "harsh critic of Bush's conduct of the war". Now, he says, if he had to do it all over again, he still would have gone into Iraq. After running left until his tongue was hanging out, he's now reversing direction and charging off to the right. Now he's taking telephone calls from Karl Rove.

He's a strange Jekyll and Hyde type, an example of 21st century political lycanthropy -- a Lon Chaneyesque transmogrification of Democratic man into Republican werewolf simply because it's the most expedient thing to do. Almost a Vice-President, he's now emulating the likes of Norm Coleman.

It calls to mind the poem from all the old werewolf movies:

Even a man who is pure of heart
And says his prayers at night
Can become a werewolf when the wolfbane blooms
And the autumn moon is bright.

Goodbye Joe. You're a Republican now. All we can do is put a stake through your heart.

1. I don't even think Joe knows who the REAL Leiberman is...
What is really sad is if he just stayed true to the Liberman of his youth he wouldn't be in this mess. As I was listening to Al Franken on my way to class this morning, they were talking about how Leiberman was very active in the civil rights movement and all the positive things he's done in the past... but now he's just a Bush shill. What happened to these people? What happened to the Leibermans or the McCains that used to have some semblance of principal, but have sold their souls to BushCo?

Both of them will get their just rewards.

3. "Republican now"??
The Bush kissing, warmongering neocon enabler has been a Republican ever since the cabal took over our government in 2000.
