CHENEY: Lieberman's Loss Will "Hearten American Terrorist Enemies"
Democrats Rally Behind Lamont, Isolating Lieberman
By ADAM NAGOURNEY
Published: August 9, 2006

.....................

“It’s an unfortunate development, I think, from the standpoint of the Democratic Party, to see a man like Lieberman pushed aside because of his willingness to support an aggressive posture in terms of our national security strategy,’’ Mr. Cheney said in a telephone interview with news agency reporters.

....................

Mr. Cheney offered warm praise for Mr. Lieberman, who was his opponent for vice president in 2000, though he said he did not want his remarks to be construed as endorsement of Mr. Lieberman. He cast Mr. Lieberman’s loss in ominous terms, suggesting that it would hearten American terrorist enemies.

Al Qaeda, he said, is “betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people in terms of our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task.”

“And when we see the Democratic Party reject one of its own, a man they selected to be their vice presidential nominee just a few short years ago, it would seem to say a lot about the state the party is in today,” he said.

I really believe that God is/has been weeping for quite some time now. Humans are horrible creatures, but the one thing that gives me hope is that we are also capable of extraordinary acts of kindness and love. yin and yang I guess.

They're like the Wicked Witch of the West after Dorothy threw the water on her.

What an awful lot of fuss about someone who isn't even in their party. I guess they must have given Liebermann a lot of hefty bribes that they'll never get the benefit from. Nothing makes Repugs go crazy quite like the prospect of losing money.

19. Oh, right. Sure
Osama bin Laden is just tickled pink that Lieberman lost. Right now he's sitting in his cave in Paskistan (or his motel room in Des Moines), cackling, "Bwahahaha! The infidels rejected Joe Lieberman, the only man who could have defeated us! If Lieberman had won, we would be doomed, but now we're safe! Bwahahaha! Stupid infidels." Yup, that's exactly what's going on.

Cheney, you're not only an evil fuck, a pustule on the ass of humanity, but you're a stupid bastard, too.

26. The Democratic Party did NOT "reject one of its own"
You see Dick, I know you don't have much respect for this thing we like to call democracy. But in this land of ours, we hav a little something called elections. That's when the American people, the voters, determine who they want to respresent them.

And in this case, the people decided they wanted change. It wasn't about what the "Democratic Party" wanted. It was about what the people wanted.

34. Cheney is a master at political rhetoric.
His speech is as damaging as it can possibly be to all Democrats without compromising his calm/assertive leader persona.

I despise his motives, intentions, and actions, but I really admire his ability to control his words so effectively.

Consider:

It’s an unfortunate development, I think, from the standpoint of the Democratic Party - see how he puts a negative spin toward Democrats right up front

to see a man like Lieberman pushed aside - clearly political posturing. As he points out himself, he is a former rival and known for NEVER supporting a Democrat

because of his willingness to support an aggressive posture in terms of our national security strategy - now he can define himself and the current Administration. Though he admits that he is the cause of the Lieberman loss, he makes the result sound like a Democratic failure.

Actually, he is admitting that the Lieberman loss is a referendum against him and Bush and Lieberman is a casualty of his own policies, yet the listener is left with the impression that the loss is an "unfortunate development" for Democrats.

The NYT does Cheney a favor by separating his fear-mongering, putting it at the bottom of the article.

Now, to demonstrate his own strength, he speaks for Osama bin Laden and all terrorists as though he knows what they are thinking: (Al Quaida is) betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people in terms of our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task. Translation: if you are not supporting our currently policies, you are helping Al Qaida. How does THAT make you feel?

Finally, we get a Cheney memorable quote about the state of the Democratic Party.

And when we see the Democratic Party reject one of its own, a man they selected to be their vice presidential nominee just a few short years ago, it would seem to say a lot about the state the party is in today.

And what would that be? That Americans are pissed at you? That a party tolerant of a conservative six years ago is no longer so lenient? That the Democrats are representing the belief that Iraq is a fiasco - a belief shared by a clear majority of Americans?

Yes, Dick, you're right. Lieberman losing says a lot about the state of the Democratic Party today. That must be why you're trying to change our war crimes laws so quickly.

Peace

Shooter is right, the last thing Al Qaeda wants to see is America learn anything from reality. I'm sure Al Qaeda fears a man who would shoot a freind in the face more than a shit head who thinks he can get others to do his dirty work.
