How easy is it to "strip" someone of their committee positions?

How easy is it to "strip" someone of their committee positions?

People seem to be throwing this idea around about Lieberman, like Reid can just decide to do this tomorrow, but isn't it more complicated?

I seem to remember that once assigned to a committee you hold that position throughout the term of the Congress or unless you are removed by a majority vote of the committee.

I really don't think its as easy as Harry Reid waving a magic wand and saying Lieberman is no longer on any committees.

Maybe someone could clarify.

Everyone seems to just assume Reid can strip him of all his posts at a whim.

I haven't seen anything to suggest he can, he sits on committees in his capacity as a senator, not a partisan after he is appointed.
