Why do these crazy terrorists want to kill Innocent Americans?

Are they crazy? What POSSIBLE reason would these whackos have to kill us? Cspan callers are always saying, "these people wanna kill us", I just have to occasionally wonder why?

Do you ever wonder why? Why they hate us? Did they just decide to hate us and attack us out of the clear blue sky? Were they just bored? Can anyone answer me that?

No one ever, ever, ever addresses this question.

I've been thinking about this lately, too. You really *don't* get to see/hear discussions on the aims and issues of the "enemy," which makes it difficult to evaluate the potential success of our actions. (though we all know enough to know that Bush's actions appear to have been almost robotically controlled by bin Laden)

Why *do* they "want to kill" us? What *are* the stated and/or known goals of the various terrorist organizations and of each of the countries in the Middle East? What is the historical context of each? (What else needs to be asked?)

To keep things simple, what books more concisely and accurately address the above?

Things I've heard are bin Laden's goals/complaints...
- Get US soldiers out of holy land, Saudi Arabia (done. though now I expect the goal is to have us out of any Middle East country)
- Increase the cost of oil (bin Laden felt the price was too low, and that it was robbing ME countries of their potential wealth)
- Replace Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in Iraq w/ an Islamic theocracy (getting there)
- Induce the United States to invade a Middle Eastern country, in order to rally the ME world against the US and drain the US economically (as they did the Russians in Afghanistan). A direct overthrow of the US would not be necessary if the US were to be lured in to a drawn-out war, as the country could be brought to its knees economically. (getting there)

When you wonder about the Right Wing talking point of "we haven't been hit since 9/11, so Bush's war in Iraq is protecting us," try to evaluate the statement against the bullets above. Maybe they haven't hit us again since 9/11 since a direct military overthrow is not the aim or goal or even a possibility. They can accomplish everything they want by simply draining us economically, and we're playing their game perfectly. Direct attacks are only necessary if they need to provoke an action, and that hasn't been necessary since Bush foolishly invaded Iraq.

...sees no difference between non-Islamic (and thus evil) governments, and the people who either support those governments actively, or implicitly support them by their lack of violent armed revolution against said governments. This is pretty clear if you look at what happened in Algeria during their civil war. Eventually the jihadists wound up fighting each other, since each thought the other was unsufficiently jihad-y and pure.

All headed for Israel and Iraq, the cargo of 100, 5000 lb bombs were found to be clearly marked with the stamp, "Made in the USA".

One said that Democrats should just "go over there and join their Islamic friends" and you could hear the hatred.

"Who is this Allah guy and what does he have against airplanes? I'm Catholic and I don't freak out every time I see a piece of wood."

Afterall, you don't blow away 100,000+ Iraqis in the Arab World and not expect some people to be pissed off enough to want to "even the score."

Man, talk about holding a grudge.

Because they hate us for our freedoms. I assume that's why he's taking our freedoms away from us. Clever idea. The terrorists won't hate us anymore when we're as bereft of liberty and hope as they are.

And if you believe that....

Almost everyone thinks they have a legitimate reason when they murder someone and many are mad about something.

I gave that book to my sister a few years back. She's liberal but not really involved in politics so she was getting caught up in this "They hate us because of our freedom" propaganda. I sent her the book. After reading it, she said she didn't know why the real reasons weren't more obvious to her before. I know why.....the lying propaganda machine we call television news.
