Feingold gives Lamont $5,000 contribution
Feingold sent anti-war candidate Ned Lamont a $5,000 check Wednesday, one day after Lamont defeated three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary in Connecticut.

Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat and one of the Senate's leading critics of the Iraq war, made the contribution from his political action committee, the Progressive Patriots Fund, PAC spokesman Trevor Miller said.
Last year, Feingold became the first senator to call for a troop withdrawal timetable from Iraq.

In a statement, Feingold said he had "a lot of admiration" for Lieberman.

"But Ned Lamont's positions on the critical issues facing our country today are much closer to mine," said Feingold, a potential 2008 presidential candidate. "We need more leaders like Ned Lamont in Washington and I look forward to working with him on a wide range of issues in the U.S. Senate."
