*V for Vendetta*
It's out on dvd now. Rent it. Buy it.
But please don't swallow this load of bullshit day in and day out.

I woke up to 5 CNN "Breaking news" alerts in my inbox. Fuck! I'm tired of living this way. I'm sick and tired of TerrA. We work all our lives in pursuit of happiness and we're made to be pawns of motherfuckers who'll never honestly give a shit about our lives. We're all just collateral damage.

Fuck this!

We seriously need to get our shit together and stop waiting for these so called "leaders" to save us. THEY'RE NOT GOING TO.

1. Why the distraction?
What's happening today that they don't want us to notice?

3. Good question, although I suspect it's their fear over
what Lieberman's loss on Tuesday really means -- that they are losing their grip on our throats.

5. Why does it have to be about today? Or yesterday
for that matter. They've been working on us for years. Perhaps all this terra-terra today is about what we're supposed to remember tomorrow or a week from now.

4. Alternativey if you are adults and not of childlike intelligence
you might purchase the graphic novel and read that. It's far more unsettling and intersting.

V for Vendetta is like Red Dawn for liberals - confirms a child like mythologized view of our belief system, and so is enjoyable for us.

It is well made, and has some great scenes, though.

24. ++ to the graphic novel...
I especially enjoyed what V did to Prothero (the Limbaugh-like propaganda guy, the Voice of Fate) in the graphic novel.

It does explain a few things that the movie does not.

27. Hey, I liked "Red Dawn"
Sure, it's looks like an infomercial for Soldier Of Fortune/NRA, but it's still a pretty decent flick.

8. I want to know how it got an R rating
I have watched it 4 times now and I see no justification for the R rating at all. No sex and the violence doesn't even equal the gruesome level of some scream flicks I have seen rated PG-13.

I can only guess it was done so the young impressionable crowd is not targeted. Too bad, I let my 12 year old boy see it with me.

I mean really, Evey gets tortured, and V blows up a bunch of shit - not to mention the graphic knife fighting scenes.

19. V for Vendetta is one of the best movies I have seen in years.
Inspiring. It represents not where we are at now, but where we can end up. This movie was emotionally overpowering and I found myself moved to tears by Natalie Portman's last line. A great, moving ending. I was also very moved by the backstory of the lesbian couple. I have been a supporter of gay/lesbian rights, but maybe in an abstract way. The love this couple had for one another really went to my heart.

If you have not seen this movie, please see it and watch it again and again. There is a lot of great dialog that may take more than one viewing to catch. Use the subtitles, but watch it again anyways.

26. More reasons to see this great film
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_for_Vendetta_%28film%29

Several conservative Christian groups were critical of the film's negative portrayal of a theocracy and sympathetic portrayal of homosexuality and Islam. Ted Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, called V for Vendetta "a vile, pro-terrorist piece of neo-Marxist, left-wing propaganda filled with radical sexual politics and nasty attacks on religion and Christianity".link Don Feder, a conservative columnist from Frontpage Magazine has called V for Vendetta "the most explicitly anti-Christian movie to date."link Meanwhile, LGBT commentators have praised the film for its positive depiction of gays, with writer Michael Jensen calling the film "one of the most pro-gay ever".link

28. you're giving V for Vendetta more props than it deserves
a simplistic, feel good morality tale - V was a preposterous cartoon figure with endless financing, endless technical knowledge, endless access to subway train parts, endless strength, etc.

how exactly does a train packed with explosived destroy a 4 block long building so that it looks like a controlled demolition, complete with FIREWORKS?

it was entertaining, but not particularly insightful or edifying. just like the matrix. it won't stick with you like true art.

39. I disagree...
It worked on many levels and when viewed with a critical eye, one might appreciate that the major antagonists and protagonists were all a mixture of conflicting complex emotions that left it up to the viewer to decide.

Add to that the wonderful dialogue in V's alliterations, I felt it was a kick-ass (sorry for the technical term there) movie.

30. Over 500 positive reviews at IMDb
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434409/externalreviews

"V FOR VENDETTA" will revive your faith in Hollywood’s ability to create a topically relevant, philosophically expansive and emotionally powerful film. With gay characters playing central and illuminating roles as social commentators and mythic inspiration, "V" becomes one of the more honest and frightening films that includes the gay experience in a vision of social distopia.

...

In every scene, Andy and Larry Wachowski (the brothers behind "The Matrix" trilogy) deliver a scathing indictment of the current U.S. government. References to Abu Ghraib, color-coded terrorist warnings and religious fanaticism pockmark every frame of the film, creating an Orwellian atmosphere that sheds an unforgiving light on American culture.

Houston Voice

Damn good summation.
