Cold War vs. Al Qaeda/Terror hoaxes now?

I have seen footage of the little children practicing hiding under their school desks during the NU-KI-LAR days...etc. Obviously nuclear wars...etc. occupied Americans' lives then, I was not around to experience it.

For those who were there, is this islamist/terrorism/threats/fears/hoaxes...etc. the same as what it was back then for potential nuclear wars?

Is it more intense now? is the actual threat bigger and more dangerous now? how does it compare?

Millions of dead -- vaporized in a flash -- including you and your mommy and daddy. And there you'd be at school, huddled under that damn useless desk to die. There's no way on earth they can make this terrorism nonsense more frightening than tens of thousands of hydrogen bombs pointed right at us while we pointed even more at them. It seemed for a long time like there was no way out of total mutual destruction. Never let them bs you into believing that this nonsense is more frightening.

I feared our own irrational leaders (not all just Reagan actually) just as much as those commie bastids back in the day. Granted, I'm too young to have hid under my desk - Nixon was pres when I entered elementary, but immediate and total destruction is actually scary, cavemen not so much.

The WOT is a load of bull, and you know it. If it was for real they'd be hardening the security of our food and water supplies, hardening security at our nuclear and chemical plants, and port security would be important enough not to hand over to a foreign entity. It's just an excuse to loot the treasury, wage illegal war for strategic resources, and burn the Constitution.
