Computer help needed

I am having some problems with the hard drive on my computer.

When I run chkdsk it says there are problems with the file systems. I run chkdsk /f to fix the problem - it then says another process is running - and asks if I want to run chkdsk on the next start up.

I select "Y" but it never comes up.


I then run in safe mode and it says the hard drive is locked and do I want to run chkdsk on the next reboot.

I bought Norton Disk Doctor 2006 and it still didn't help.


My computer is running fine, but it annoys me there are problems with the hard drive and I am unable to fix it. It's an NTFS file system.

Is there anything I can do?

2. If you have another computer running XP available...
and know a bit about hard drive installation, you could put your drive into the other system as a slave drive, then boot up XP on that system and run the Windows disk-checking utility on your drive.
