Israeli Forces 'Detain' 350 Lebanese Soldiers Who Wouldn't Share Garrison
Lebanon: Israeli army detaining 350 soldiers, police

BEIRUT (AP) — Israeli troops detained about 350 Lebanese soldiers and police in Marjayoun after capturing the town on Thursday, Lebanon's interior minister said. The Israeli military said nobody was taken prisoner.

Lebanon's Interior Minister Ahmed Fatfat told The Associated Press that Israeli troops entered the garrison in Marjayoun Thursday afternoon "and asked to share it with Lebanese troops there."

"The troops refused and said they would leave, but the Israeli did not let them," he said.

Fatfat said the head of the joint army-police force, Brig. Adnan Daoud, was among those detained. "We consider them to be captives," he added.

  Even after they tried to leave. Should the Lebanese soldiers choose to defend themselves against their captors it would be entirely expected.

  "Oh no, don't go leaving now. We wouldn't want you to, ah, get hurt...accidentally."

  Again, Israel: Paragon of concern for the safety of their neighbors in the Middle East.

"In Israel, a military spokeswoman said troops arrived at a building in the town, where there were soldiers, police and refugees. The Israelis advised them to remain there for their own safety as fighting all around but they are not being detained by force. "Nobody has been taken prisoner," she said, speaking on condition of anonymity because military rules did not allow her to make public comments."

10. These are the same soldiers that will be expected to provide the 'buffer'
not a good beginning. Points up the hypocricy and counterproductive nature of the Israeli assault on Lebanon, the Lebanese, and their infrastructure.

11. I can agree with you on that.
Hopefully they can still attempt to hold the peace, they weren't capable of it the first go around.

I'm not in favor of sending U.S. forces to lebanon to act as a buffer. Hopefully the French will.

with Miss Israel a few years ago, during a beauty pageant. That may give you some indication why the soldiers wouldn't bunk with the Israelis. The Lebanese can be penalized for anything linking them to Israel.
