The latest terror 'plot' actually helps Dems
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 04:00 PM by NewYorkerfromMass
C'mon guys. This is gettin' old.
The GOP has cried wolf so many times, that it should be obvious by now to even the most casual observin' American that real terrorist threats are not in Iraq. They are right here amongst us. And the REAL way to fight terror is through intelligence, espionage, and good old fashioned police work. It doesn't cost 300 billion dollars and 2600 American lives and turning all of our previous allies into enemies.
The 'War on Terror' should not and is not being fought in Iraq.

Remember the old Rove strategy: turn your opponent's strengths into their weakness.
Let us then hoist the Republicans on their own f'ing petard. The more they keep talking about these terror plots, the more obvious it will be that Iraq is a huge and unnecessary waste.
We should welcome this latest news as further evidence that this administration is fighting the wrong war.

edited for spelling, and found a similar thread: Fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here" is not working

1. Well I, for one, am disgusted & outraged that Bush et al would do this...

Hold off on cracking down on a terrorist plot until after some Cheney speech bashing Democrats as "soft on terrorism." As far as I'm concerned, we were in danger all that time while the Repubs staged their little drama.

on edit: I mean, how do I explain this to my 8-year-old? How do I explain it to the children?

3. Rove also recently made a statement saying that they would make
security their cause this Fall. A DUer posted the article a couple of days ago, and my response was that if Rove was planning to make security/terrorism their issue this Fall then you could bet they'd create the environment (via more terrorism at home) to MAKE it an issue.

Not very original for Rove, eh?

4. But it doesn't matter if the plot is real or not
or when they busted it. The point is that the TRUE 'War on Terror' is NOT a military one. It is a matter of law enforcement. And the more these plots are discussed, the more evident it should be that military efforts in Iraq are a waste and a distraction to real efforts to counter terrorism.
